Hi guys, first post on the shroomery! I recently (about 3 days ago) birthed 4 cakes into my shotgun fruiting chamber after they had beed dunked and rolled and sitting for about 6 days after 100% colonization. However, they have this slight fuzz on them, does anyone know what this is? is it good or bad? It doesn't look like cobweb mold to me. Thanks

top left of the page, click on pics. it will take you to a new page, and you will again look in the top left of the page where it says Upload. upload your pics to the site, then you click edit on your original post and include the pictures.

No it doesn't look like cobweb or anything like that. To me it looks like the mycelium is reaching for moisture in the air. This means CO2 levels are too high in your SGFC. Give them more FAE.

You should lower your RH, & increase FAE

to about what do you think I should lower it to? I thought most people keep their RH around 95% to start pinning

70-75% Fresh air exchange (evaporation) is a pinning trigger.. not humidity.
RH is to prevent your cakes/sub from drying out.

Does my fruiting chamber look set up properly? I fan 4-5 times per day and it seems like that isn't enough FAE, the fuzzies arnt going away

For the most part, its typically only elevated 2 or so inches off the ground, and yes it does have holes on the bottom

for the most part?
try to put a drinking glass or mason jar if you have in each corner, the sgfc needs some room to do its thing. and keep it a foot or 2 away from all walls.
other than that theres not much you can do except mist it when it (the cakes) looks dry.

I did dunk them for like 18 hours before putting them into the chamber... wouldn't misting increase the RH, which is what someone else told me to decrease?

Mine are doing the same thing. I have the same setup, except rh is about 97 per. I have mine in a corner by the window away from the wall and setting on half pint jars. I'm pretty sure they are getting good fae. I look in on them every 4 or 5 hours and the moisture I applied has evaporated even from the walls. Don't mean to hijack you thread but I'm in the same ship Ya know.

we dont control RH like that, none of us use a hygromether.
what you want is beads of moisture on your cakes. when the cakes no longer glisten with moisture you give them a light mist. you can then fan out the mist from the air in the chamber so evaporation happens faster (air in chamber is drier, easier for it to suck moisture from your cake).
also make sure the perlite is moist. stick a finger an inch deep and feel if its wet.

So I'm supposed to actually be misting on the cakes? I just do on the walls of the fruiting chamber

oh yeah mist the cakes! the walls arent alive, they dont need water! make sure you hit the perlite as well when you're misting.
if you havent misted the perlite at all and its been a while since you wetted it you can submerge your entire sgfc in the bathtub if you have one.
otherwise just take out the cakes and hose the chamber down in the shower and let it drip off.
might not be necessary tho, you'll have to decide if the perlite feels dry or wet an inch or so down.
