Good local source for Calcium Carbonate

I've read a lot of threads on calcium carbonate but I can't figure out what I should buy. I don't want to use hydrated lime. I just want to buy something local here. I'm in the midwest. I got Home Depot and Petco as two possible sources.
Would something like this work: http://www.petco.com/product/124828/T-Rex-Crab-Island-Terra-Mix-Hermit-Crab-Calci-Sand-And-Multi-Color-Shells.aspx?CoreCat=OnSiteSearch
I could also look into limestone.

yea, home spot or loses, outside in garden section. might be near all the tiles though. 40#/$10 bag or less. FEEL the bag, and get the bag that feels like powder, not like pellets. if u can find crushed oyster shell, that is ok too, but what u have linked sounds…fishy

I've ordered a bag of crushed oyster shell. I was going to use that with the limestone. I read on another thread that just the crushed oyster shell is ok. I called the home depot here and asked if they had "plowdered limestone." They said they didn't have it but I don't think they knew what I was talking about. Maybe I should just go there and check it out.

I'm going to do the 50/50 casing tek. First time. I've done a lot of cakes before. I'm ready to try out casings.
So just the oyster shell? In the 50/50 casing tek, should I just change recipe so that instead of using hydrated lime/calcium carbonate I just use more crushed oyster shell?

Just use a soil pH indicator and get it to around 8.5. If not I think like 2 spoonfuls per quart should work.
Or roughly 10% of the dry peat in weight? Lol so many ways to skin a cat.

yea, thats fine, although hydrated lime is a good thing to have on hand in case ur pasteurization gets weird. 5 cups peat:1/2cup limestone or oyster shell:add verm up to 5 cups, or use less, will not affect Ph or the amount of oystershell.
this is my peat casing TEK its a long read, but i don't use hydrated lime in that. u can skip the perlite and add more verm if u want compared to what i do.
edit: when u say u want to try "casings" what do u mean? are u crumbling cakes or….?

I mean I'm going to take my BRF cakes and apply casing layers to them as described in the 50/50 casing tek. This is my first time to do anything besides BRF cakes, which I find way too easy. I think I'll leave the cakes whole, and crumble just a few to fill in the gaps.
