What's all this talk about The Ceramic Monkey?

Is it a cult or what? I've noticed a lot of people (mainly online but also in person) talking about this thing like it's a god. I thought it was a joke at first, but an official centre has popped up in East London and I think it's just going to keep growing.
Does anyone know what the deal is here? It could be a ridiculously over elaborate hoax, but I think it's more like a new religion or something.

Never heard of it before. I popped online to see what I could find - not much really, but this is pretty interesting

Obama also carrys A Hindu Monkey God Charm and this is what is so disturbing to us all.
Once again, August 20, 2008 – The Chicago Tribune reported in late June, 2008 that Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) carries a series of good luck charms with him. One of those charms is a Hindu brass monkey king. The charm is an image of Hanuman, the monkey god and one of the most revered gods in the Hindu religion.
Brij Mohan Bhama, a politician connected with the ruling party in India, is a follower of Hanuman and presented the Senator with a 2-foot-high gold-plated Hanuman idol, which had been blessed by a dozen Hindu priests in a special prayer service. According to Bhama, “Obama has deep faith in Lord Hanuman and that is why we are presenting an idol of Hanuman to him.”

Weird stuff. The guys I've spoken to certainly don't consider themselves anything to do with Hinduism, but maybe Hanuman is being used as a gateway to full blown cultic worship of The Ceramic Monkey. I think they actually forbid images of The Ceramic Monkey to be made, since the term refers to only the original, purportedly ancient sculpture and replicas are scorned.
I can't find that site right now, but I should be able to track it down. If it's not a giant troll, this movement is quite menacing.

If it's definitely transatlantic, I have to assume there's something going on here. On the one hand, it's a bunch of fucking stupid ketamine addicts talking about a Ceramic Monkey, but now that I've had reports from people in Australia, North and South America and every country in Britain, I think this is a genuine cult.
I'm going down to the centre today to see if I can find out what the fuck they're actually about. The weird thing is how secretive they are in certain ways, yet totally open in others. The centre is just a nondescript, numbered building that looks like an abandoned club, and getting inside is a real fucking hassle, but everyone I've met elsewhere who has spoken about it has been really enthusiastic and verbose about the whole thing.

It's definitely nothing to do with Hanuman. It seems like most of the people involved are pretty susceptible and stupid, but the numbers alone make it look a lot like a real cult, and not just some Hindu spin off for white people.
Anyway, it's good in a way that so few people have heard of it, but enough people seem involved that I can really see this turning into some Jonestown style shit if it grows enough.

Until you provide evidence of what you're talking about, I'm going to assume this is some bullshit. My Googlefu is strong and the only thing I can remotely find relating to what you said, links back directly to this thread. This is apparently the only place evidence of this 'cult' exists.

As I said, I'll try and find the "official" link, or if you live in London I'll PM you as to where you can find the centre. It would be a pretty boring and pointless hoax for me to try and convince like five people that there's a cult based on this shit.
I'm genuinely curious here and the amount of people talking about it seems way beyond some drug induced coincidence. If you don't give a fuck about it, then good, it just seemed a little ominous the way certain people have spoken to me in hushed, reverent tones about what sounds like a literal ceramic model of a fucking monkey.

Oh fuck, that might actually be precisely the thing I was talking about. A couple of the morons I met were going on about Mesoamerican shamanism and what not. That isn't the link I was talking about, but great find, man. I really want to know what the fuck these people are up to. Even K addicts can be dangerous if they're being used as pawns by someone with a functional brain.
Crazy how old that story is, though. Maybe some shattered cult decided to try its luck overseas or something?
Here it is for everyone in case it gets taken down as the orignal site I mentioned seems to have been.
Quote:
Comments0 Comments share with facebook share with twitter
MEXICO CITY, Mexico -- Police in the western state of Nayarit arrested 14 presumed members of a cult whose leaders conducted human sacrifices to gain protection for their drug trafficking activities, authorities said Thursday.
The suspects were arrested on suspicion of drug dealing and presumed to be members of a religious sect run by Olayo Soto.
Alejandro Maldonado of the Federal Attorney General's office said nine of those arrested were charged Thursday with drug offenses and illegal possession of weapons, and five minors were handed to state juvenile corrections officials.
Maldonado, who is in charge of anti-narcotics activities in Nayarit, said 10 federal agents were conducting a drug search by helicopter in the Mezquital Valley -- 420 miles northwest of Mexico City -- when they discovered marijuana plantations on land owned by Soto. They arrested Soto and 13 others.
Soto, 65, who reportedly paid the others $7 a day to work on his drug plantations, also is suspected of killing his two sons and a daughter, all between ages 20 and 25.
Maldonado denied reports that police had found a common grave containing 30 corpses, but said Soto admitted to being the leader of a cult that carried out human sacrifices in a cave on a nearby mountain.
He added that police had found blood traces in the cave that matched the blood types of Soto's two sons.
One of the detainees said Soto had sacrificed more than 30 people 'to offer their lives and blood to the devil to protect our drug trafficking activities,' Maldonado told United Press International.
Juan Granados, a judicial police officer in Nayarit, was quoted in the Mexico City daily newspaper La Jornada as saying cult members 'hung up the victims by the head, slit their throats, drained the blood into jugs and offered it to the devil.'
Granados said the ceremonies were carried out in front of a ceramic monkey, a god of the Palo Mayombe religion of African origin.
At the cave, police also found a foot-long, blood-stained dagger and a number of arrows with blood dried on them, Granados said.
The Mexico City daily newspaper El Universal said Soto's brother Juan had escaped with the ceramic monkey and was still at large.
That last line is certainly ominous, to say the least.
