Cold fan oven drying

Hey guys,
sorry for another lame question but I couldn't find an answer anywhere.
I'm ready to harvest my mushrooms and I want to dry them at home with a fan and epsom salt.
I don't really have a fan but my oven can blow cold air on the fan setting.
Will that be ok to pre dry them and then go with the epsom salt technique?
I also have a room dehydrator which has a big air inlet on the back, maybe I could place the mushrooms in front and it will extract the moisture better than the cold fan oven.
Any advice on that?
Thanks a lot!!

Any fan or moving air will do . On a side note psilocin won't degrade until temps above 350°. Cronicr successfully pressure cooked some fruits with no potency loss. Others deep fry them.
That's why if you go the fan route, I'd recommend fanning them a day or 2 until they're close to cracker dry, then throw them in the oven on lowest setting for 45 minutes. Don't even have to crack the door.
But a cheap dehydrator is like 40$. They're so much more convenient. Dehydrate on the highest heat setting.

Go ahead and turn the oven on low. The point is to dry them as fast as possible. Heat isn't a problem, exposing them to air for long periods of time is. Don't bother with epsom salts, just get them cracker dry initially and it will be fine.
What do you mean by room dehydrator? A dehumidifier? That won't work, they are only efficient above 30% rh so will not get your shrooms cracker dry.

Ok, thanks guys!
Yeah I meant dehumidifier.
So, you suggest to actually increase the temp right? What temp should I dry them at? 50C±?
Thanks!

I would stay below 100C, 50 will take a while. Typical dehydrator temps range from 50-80 C. You won't get any noticeable potency loss, even at the high end of that range.

I had to crack the door on my oven else the moisture wouldnt escape. did it at just under 100C / ~200F fan dried for half a day first.

OP, just buy a dehydrator. For $30 you can have them done in half a day and not worry about mold.

I use a normal oscillating 20 inch fan and two little Sunbeam space heaters with current fans. I use the oscillating fan covers as my drying trays. Then I position both space heaters facing towards each other, about a foot and a half apart so I can stack the trays on them and use them as a rack holder. The hot air obviously rises through the trays very well and usually will cracker dry them in half a day. Its not the best method but super easy and you dont have to mess with your oven. A lot of times I like to do this in a cardboard box so the air goes in and straight up. No where else. My heaters dont put out crazy heat, I can still touch the front grill of them while theyre hot, its hot, but its not gonna burn my skin, so its safe to use as a dryer. Dont use a space heater if puts out too much.
You can get an idea of my drying set up with these pics. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18628063

Ok so what I have done is, I have my fan oven on around 80C with door slightly opened, the mushrooms are lying spread on baking trays with a good amount of kitchen towel underneath.
Two trays, mushrooms not touching each other.
Would that work?
I hope so because they are already in there hehe

Sounds good with the oven. I would say go with something more like a rack as opposed to a baking sheet. You want the heated airflow to pass through the racks of mush, rather than just heating the baking sheet. But with the towels you shouldn't have any major issues with that. If anything just point a fan near the oven to create your own convection.

did you fan dry them yet? why are they on towels? you want air hitting them from all sides, put them on a screen of some sort.

they are going in the oven right now, they are shrinking in size already.
I could possibly transfer them from the trays onto the oven racks

If the fruits aren't gonna be small enough to slip through the oven racks once dried, this would be the best option in place of a rack or screen. I would do this.
