Have you ever been drunk?
    #22181061 - 09/02/15 10:57 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

Again I like to precede my messages by just letting everyone on here know how fucking awesome they are. you're all great and I love you all.

Anyways, have you guys ever been drunk before? I have. It makes me sleepy sometimes, but sometimes it's really energizing. I find that beer makes me sleepy while liquor makes me energetic. I'm drinking beer right now so it's really sleepy drunk. Cigarettes added to the mix just make it even weirder and tireder. man working fulltime just makes you fiend getting off work so you can temporarily forget how shitty your life is. It's fucked up.

Yes, I have been drunk numerous times but I sort of have a like/hate relationship with booze of any kind. A lot more hate though... I drink very rarely so a 30 rack could literally last me two months or more. When I was younger I used to not mind the taste of beer & could drink a bottle in under a couple minutes. Now I absolutely despise the taste-even import or high quality beers. To me it tastes similar to vomit-wether that is a mental thing or not, I'm not really sure. I think after a few times of getting black out drunk I've just become really put off with drinking. In general I just don't really like the feeling that much of being tipsy/drunk. Obviously they're very different substances but I'd much, much prefer weed or classic psychedelics. Drinking is just not enjoyable or fun to me anymore...

dude, that's pretty hardcore.
I maxed out at half a beer.

but srsly, I've been drinking about once or twice a month max atm, and lately I max out at 2 glasses of wine. Normally I'm a social drinker and that puts me at once or twice a week, but I just haven't been up to it.

I'm on vacation in a little over a week with my friend, and we'll probably make up for it then.

Beer seem's to make me sleepy for the most part unless its stuff like Coors lite or natty. I however enjoy dark beer. stuff like Shock top, Blue moon, Yuengling and some times Amberbock. I used to drink every day. Since I quit my last job iv been more relaxed. Only a about a 6 pack in 3 months!!

Most of your alcoholics transition over time to really poor food and resort to mainly ingesting alcohol to the point where your body actually learns to survive off that sugar and shit, making one more factor of detox difficult.. usually when you end up in the hospital they pump you full of what they call the 'bananna bag' and have you drink these shots of stuff that flushes the ammonia out of your system.. gives you the toxic shits basically.. and then add the whole benzo thing to keep your gaba from annihilating you...  but yeah, at a point your body basically survives off that alcohol, and depriving it of that wrecks and sometimes kills you..

Re: Have you ever been drunk? [Re: mollymadman]
    #22181317 - 09/03/15 12:06 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I started drinking as most do, at parties and get togethers in high school.

It was always just social drinking and I wouldn't even consider getting drunk at home by myself but I would drink till I blacked out fairly often.

Shortly after HS I got hooked on opiates for 4 years and I didn't drink at all during that entire time. I just didn't like mixing the two drugs.

As soon as I got clean, I started drinking socially again with my friends and was in my mid 20-s by this time. I would say at least 1-2 times a week we got pretty damn drunk and on weekends blackouts were almost a prerequisite.

Eventually over the next few years most of my close friends moved away and/or started their families and I was left by myself. So, about 2 years ago I started drinking every evening. It got to a point of it being an all day binge if I had nothing to do that day. And all night if I had enough alcohol to keep it going. Basically every second of free time I had I would be drinking liquor, but a lot of beer as well...Anything with alcohol...

Finally I started to notice a couple health problems like high blood pressure as well as just overall feeling like shit constantly. I started tapering off in October of 2015 and shortly after New Year's I was ready to fully quit. That was easily one of the best decisions of my life.

It's now been 9 months since I "quit" and my life has improved dramatically in ever aspect. From work to love to health and everything in between. I couldn't even picture myself blackout drunk again, although it has happened a few times when I slipped up after quitting. That hasn't happened in a few months though.

I don't think I was ever a full blow alcoholic, but I was indeed a functional alcoholic leaning towards just an alcoholic for the last 6 months of heavy drinking. These are all just arbitrary titles though. Thankfully all my withdrawals were pretty easy to deal with since I tapered down beforehand. A lot of lethargy, high BP, the "shakes" for about 2 weeks, and overall boredom with life. If I would've kept increasing my intake though, I could see it getting extremely bad. Just having had a lot of experience with addiction earlier in life helped me realize when my dependence was getting to dangerous levels.

Alcohol just makes me a compulsively bad person. Maybe one day I'll be able to drink socially again without going crazy, and I have, but I really don't see the point. I don't enjoy being drunk anymore and severely regret it the few times it's happened since I "quit". I don't like being preachy at all about this topic, just like to share how alcohol has affected my life so far. Most of my friends to this day can drink socially and even at home without going overboard, but I'm just not built like that.

Alcohol is a hell of a drug...

I think when you work yourself away from it and finally get to that breathing easy point... to trick yourself with 'social' usage just 1 reminds you of the toxic nature with that first drink, but 2 takes you down that same path...gradually.  You will fall back into that pattern.. its written in you..you know what I mean?  All the, "well, I'll approach it this way, or I'll approach it that way" shit just leads you back to..."there".. drink by drink

Absolutely. The few times I let one beer turn into 3...or 15 in the last 9 months, I always tried to find a way to rationalize it. Usually my rationalizations consisted of "I have some extra money, nothing to do, I'm a bit lonely and having some meaningless drunk sex will be fun."

I've been especially lucky with my woman since she's not a big drinker either. The two months that we've been together we've only drank once, several glasses of red wine during a nice dinner which was actually really nice but I did again regret it the following day.

Drinking is nothing but toxicity and I'm just glad it's something I'm aware of. Something that I did where I saw myself in real time degrading in every aspect of my physical and mental being. Even if it did take me a few years of abuse for me to figure this out.

There's also that thing where people of either sex sometimes insert alcohol soaked tampons, it's super fucked up - Pretty sure people have actually died doing it.

I read about this several months ago. I thought that the article was satire since it sounded so rediculous but I guess people actually do this. Especially in places where they have to hide their drinking like high school.

Do you know anyone personally that has done this?

It just sounds so insane to do this, although I know many people that plug all sorts of different drugs...So who knows?

Have you (or anyone else here) heard about the bar/nightclub in London that pumps alcohol vapor into the air at their establishment? I believe you play a flat fee, and 1 hour of hanging out in the this place is roughly equivalent to 1-2 drinks.

http://www.wired.com/2015/08/brilliant-bar-gets-drunk-alcoholic-cloud/

It may not sound like much, but the concept of this if it catches on could really get some people in a lot of trouble. A lot of people are deterred from drinking because of how it tastes or because of all the calories. When those things don't matter those people are going to start getting fucked up.

What do you guys think about this "alcohol cloud bar"?

Wasnt it Studio 54 where they would dump some kind of drug through the ventilation system?  Might be hype, or an urban legend, but I think they actually did that shit on some nights,..or atleast the story goes.

I've only been straight up drunk probably 9 or 10 times, only blacked out twice. I'm really not a fan of being drunk. I can't remember anything and it leaves me feeling like complete shit regardless of how much water I drink. When I do drink, I very rarely drink more than 5 drinks. And I honestly can't comprehend how people can get blackout drunk every single weekend. Guess it goes to show that everyones biochem is different:shrug:

Gather around ya'll, it's old man story time! (I'm 33)

I had my first cocktail when I was about 6 or 7 years old, several of them. My mom used to give me my own cup of Fuzzy Navel's (peach schnaps and OJ, to a kid, it's really sweet orange juice) whenever she'd have friends over....which was pretty much every or every other night.

Once sophomore year started in high school, my parents would pick me up from work, drive to the store and buy whatever booze my friends and I wanted, as long as I gave my stepdad a few swigs off whatever bottle. That was the Friday night ritual for 3 out of 4 years of high school. I don't mean a bottle of vodka for us, I mean "Here's a list and $150".

Got alcohol poisoning one night off a bottle of 110 proof vodka, this nasty stuff called Fosnoff 110. That wasn't fun. I was 17 when that happened and I still had 13 years ahead of me of MUCH crazier drinking.

I moved to Ft Lauderdale, Fla when I was 20, a few months before my 21st birthday. By this point, I was a fairly shy kid who realized early on that drinking brought out this whole other character. I had been playing guitar in bands for a while at that point and I'd be frozen onstage without a few drinks first....then I could rock out and jump around, whatever.

I got a job at a little chili joint while staying with my dad until I found my own place. Even after I turned 21, I was hiding my half gallons of Captain Morgan (that I'd have the dishwasher get for me next door to the chili place) in a gym bag. My dad kicked it by accident one day and was more shocked at me hiding it than he was me drinking. I'd be getting hammered at work then coming home, smoking blunts in my pool and slamming back rum and cokes by myself.

Once I turned 21...man, the group of friends I had back then. I've always worked in restaurants and I've drank in every one of them, heavily. At a TGI Friday's, we'd have the hosts sit all our tables at once, put all their orders in then run across the street, open our tabs for the night, do shots and run back to work across the street.

My band was playing out more and I ended up taking over as the singer, whole new amount of pressure...more drinking than average at shows...a LOT of shows I don't remember.

Got a girlfriend when I was 23, she wasn't a big fan of me drinking (but was totally cool with snorting Oxy's all fuckin' day) so I laid off for about a year and a half until I got sick of her shit and ended it. THIS is when the drinking took over pretty much all of me.

I moved in with my 3 best friends that I grew up with, the same dudes who my parents used to by booze for....and we still all LOVED drinking. I hadn't seen these guys in a few years, so my first few weeks it was nonstop drinking, jamming in the basement, just having a blast.

It took two months before the first buddy moved out because he couldn't handle it anymore. He's a touring musician and he'd get home from a 3 week tour and the house would be raging with people....the endless pranks pulled in this house...

This party never ended in that house. I was there for 4.5 years and the longest I went without getting blackout drunk was 30 days and that's because I was trying REALLY hard not to drink. Aside from those 30 days, I only had 2...3 at the most, sober days a week. And those "sober days" meant I was hungover and still drunk from the night before.

Another roommate bailed and it was just my best friend, my girlfriend and I. I've known this dude since we were 11 and have rarely gone more than 2 days without talking since. We'd buy half gallons of Admiral Nelson (and ultra sweet, knock-off Captain Morgan) 3-6x a week. minimally 3, on average 5.

I went from 165lbs to 250lbs. I was fucking miserable. I remember my stepdad laughing when he saw my hands shaking one day, like I made it into the club. I had a lot of things I was running from that I believe was preventing me from moving forward in my life and the drinking was covering that stuff up.

I knew all along what I was doing to myself. Part of me WANTED to fall on my face because all my rockstar idols did at one point, or ended up dead and by the end of this, I was thinking of places to hide my body so no one would have to deal with it after I offed myself.

The last year and a half was really rough. I was living in a total drunken haze, going to work drunk, waking up and drinking right away. My girlfriend was doing her best to be supportive but I really wanted/needed to be on my own....she wouldn't go, definitely best she didn't because I probably would have done myself in out of not having to worry about her finding my body. I did a lot of dumb shit to purposefully put distance between us.

Then my best friend moved out. The drinking started cutting back, slightly....I was still drinking a lot at work though. My girlfriend and I decided to move back to Florida (this all happened just south of Boston) and even after getting here, I was still getting pretty shitfaced regularly. My buddy was a bartender and would hook us up, I'd rationalize I had a night off so I could drink.

Then my 30th birthday hit. I was already hammered when my buddy gave me some molly....and I had my first 3 day hangover after.

The Florida sun, finding a new band and focusing on music more than I ever really have, being out of New England and away from friends who can't stop drinking (my best friend is still getting hammered way too much)...the urge to drink just went away.

During those 5 years I didn't smoke as much weed as I did during high school, but when I got to Florida, I DEFINITELY rediscovered my love for it. I only drink once a month these days. I blacked out a couple weeks ago, but instead of feeling guilty about it, I was able to laugh because it's been so long since it's happened and I only don't remember the last hour of being awake. I had to rewatch an episode of Heroes to make up for hahahahha...

I smoke all day, every day....but my outlook on life, the way I carry myself, the way I appreciate other humans...it's so different than 3 years ago. I'm glad that I can still drink and not worry about binging for weeks at a time. The worst I'll do now is drink a bottle of vodka by myself and eat a shitload of food, then feel like shit for 3 days and not do it again for another month.

Drinking is definitely fun, but man....that shit does things to your brain that you just don't realize at the time. It's called a depressant for a reason, that's for sure.

I think 30 is the magical age for hangovers. At least in my experience.

One of the reasons I don't drink much anymore is because of recovery time. I can't drink nearly like I used to, otherwise I'm out of commission for a few days.

That was also around the time that smoking weed started giving me terrible anxiety and panic attacks but I think that may be more of a coincidence.

I'm already a wimp about hangovers, they can easily take me out the whole next day.  I kind of always have been, but they seem like they're harder for me to avoid now. I've never been the type to end up so drunk I'm puking(save for 1 or 2 times as an 18/19 year old), instead I will end up puking the whole day after.

I'm 23 though, and from what I understand 2-day hangovers are an actual thing and I'm so not looking forward to that :feelsbadman:.

Unless you are only looking for responses from teenagers, Wouldn't it make more sense to ask if you have been drunk more than 10 thousand times?
