I cleaned up my porch today, and reorganized to increase hang out space for my lovely girlfriend, beautiful baby girl and myself to enjoy. I will post pics of my indoor cactus garden another time. It is just a couple hundred seedlings anyway.
Enjoy!!

I just realized that you can barely see my TBM, and my loph grafts are mostly invisible. The few that can be seen were grafted about 10 days ago.

both actually. Also the larger you go with terracotta, the heavier it gets. Buckets are easier to carry. I am trying to get away from buckets in the coming years though. I am slowly growing my pot collection.

Nice! Welcome to the balancing act of spending time with family and spending time with your plants

I would recommend a fabric pot over large terracotta pots. They are awesome for air exchange, and some come with handles now even. I can move my 7 gallon fabric pots pretty easy, and they have loads of root space.
A question I've had for a while now... Are the crested varieties for 'active use' or are they just cool specimens?

Lovely plants, kosmo. And a very sensible move, making things enjoyable for you AND your family. It's so much more fun when you can share your passion, isn't it?

Well I'm sure an active trich makes an active crest, but why would you do that? Beautiful rarer slow growing collectable and you eat it??? Furthermore, coring and peeling a crest sounds difficult.

None of mine are for consumption. The ones I sell on ebay belong to whoever buys them and they can do as they wish. My backyard looks like yours ferrel cause we both have shitty soil in Texas. I plan to clean it up again. Ive got a messed up back and shoulder at the moment, I pick and choose my battles. I plan to teach my daughter to love plants and nature. She will be able to continue growing the personal collection.

You can plan to teach your kids about stuff but you cant teach them to love something, that will always be their choice. You can however, share your love of something and they can be inspired by it, but you may find they cherish the sharing of something with dad just as much as the thing itself.
Of my two kids, one of them loves nature. plants and animals. She picks up spiders and bugs and isnt freaked out by stuff even poor dead animals and so on. Just loves nature. The other one, my boy, hes scared of bugs and so on, and gets freaked out at the sight of a dead animal. He likes plants but its not as much a fascination as it is for my girl. Every kids different, but we can try to share our passions nevertheless!

Kenneth, the cost was too much...but my love for growing cacti doesn't have a price...so right now, I am only buying soil/perlite. No pots, no seeds, no cuttings. I need to try and make some money from my hobby finally, but no one is buying.

One of the reasons I am now using only terracotta. My collection sits outdoors, on my roof terrace, and when the wind gets up lightweight plastic pots can blow around a bit !!

If you want demand for your trich cuts, get some fancy genetics in there and the buyers will appear. My own collection is a bit limited for genetics but I have managed to acquire Eileen and Psycho0 Bridgesii, Yowie and Mike Pachanoi, Gnosis Cuzco. Still no Peruvians... And a really fat spineless scopulicola and some spiny scop hybrid.
Got loads of interesting gentics in my seedlings however, but that will take years. Cant wait to see the hybrids.

Oh I agree, Convergence.. I hope in time to make some kind of money on my hobby. I have gone to great lengths to acquire seed. (rare-seed). I have a Knack for starting plants from seed. In fact, many friends just ask me to start their tomato plants for them each year.. lol
I have some odd Trichs that I have started from seed, in my collection. Some brigesii, peruvianus, chavin de huantar, Los gentiles, Terschekii, werdermanianus, Werder-lecoriensis, Skottsbergii, Tarijensis and some pretty ones like Grandiflora, huascha, and I am interested to see what my Callianthus will come out to being like, (although some say its a variant of huascha). I have not seen any literature on how (active) Calianthus is.
My Long-Term goal.. is to try and breed some (color), into the large column varieties. I doubt I will see it in my lifetime, But I would like to see a Tall, yet short spined pachanoi with a flower, the color of my Joseph's coat, rose. Call it a life goal.

None sold in a month online. No big deal. I went ahead and built an above ground flower bed. Doing so exacerbated my nerve injury. Ive been nearly crippled in the right arm for about two weeks.
Anyway, when my arm permits and the weather brightens, Ill post pics. I planted about 30 in the above ground bed but it will hold another 30. Ill winter them in ground, spring will throw new growth, and suddenly Ill have a lot more growth.
I think I want to let some get really big. Either way, I wont be doing any more labor for a while. My arm is seriously fucked.

If you ever find yourself with some extra cuts I say experiment with planting in the ground. I know a grower in SoCal that has pretty much pure clay soils and no problem growing trichs in it. He probably doesn't have a four month rain season, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Hey kizatzhaddarak, are you on the SAB/Corroboree forums? There are a group of folks over there working towards this goal as well. Also, keep your eyes out for a T. tulhuayascensis/tulhuaycaensis (not sure of spelling) it is a peru/cuzco looking trich with bright pink flowers. It is pretty rare, but can be found. Not much info is available on it either.

You should probably go ahead and sign up over there. I'm a member now it seems but it took me like 3 months before I was viewed and allowed access to the forum.
Now I don't really know what to do over there because it's sooo different from this forum but I was told by the owner of misplant to sign up and show off some of my grafts and plants there.

For me it's just how they have the forum set up that makes the SAB a lil more difficult for me to wrap my mind around. Also I've never been able to find anything like an off topic thread to introduce myself like I can do here.
