I cleaned up my porch today, and reorganized to increase hang out space for my lovely girlfriend, beautiful baby girl and myself to enjoy. I will post pics of my indoor cactus garden another time. It is just a couple hundred seedlings anyway.
Enjoy!!

I like you just fine, and was thrilled when you came back from your small hiatus (move?) Just because we had a single disagreement does not make us enemies.

I just realized that you can barely see my TBM, and my loph grafts are mostly invisible. The few that can be seen were grafted about 10 days ago.

Are the 5 gal buckets for root space/depth or because of price?

both actually. Also the larger you go with terracotta, the heavier it gets. Buckets are easier to carry. I am trying to get away from buckets in the coming years though. I am slowly growing my pot collection.

Nice! Welcome to the balancing act of spending time with family and spending time with your plants
-------------------- One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. 'Which road do I take?' she asked. 'Where do you want to go?' was his response. 'I don't know', Alice answered. 'Then', said the cat, 'it doesn't matter.'

Did you hijack my backyard? Looks very familiar. I gotta go out side now.

I would recommend a fabric pot over large terracotta pots. They are awesome for air exchange, and some come with handles now even. I can move my 7 gallon fabric pots pretty easy, and they have loads of root space.
A question I've had for a while now... Are the crested varieties for 'active use' or are they just cool specimens?

Lovely plants, kosmo. And a very sensible move, making things enjoyable for you AND your family. It's so much more fun when you can share your passion, isn't it?

Well I'm sure an active trich makes an active crest, but why would you do that? Beautiful rarer slow growing collectable and you eat it??? Furthermore, coring and peeling a crest sounds difficult.

I bought my kids a mammillaria each and they are just starting to flower now. They love it.

None of mine are for consumption. The ones I sell on ebay belong to whoever buys them and they can do as they wish. My backyard looks like yours ferrel cause we both have shitty soil in Texas. I plan to clean it up again. Ive got a messed up back and shoulder at the moment, I pick and choose my battles. I plan to teach my daughter to love plants and nature. She will be able to continue growing the personal collection.

You can plan to teach your kids about stuff but you cant teach them to love something, that will always be their choice. You can however, share your love of something and they can be inspired by it, but you may find they cherish the sharing of something with dad just as much as the thing itself.
Of my two kids, one of them loves nature. plants and animals. She picks up spiders and bugs and isnt freaked out by stuff even poor dead animals and so on. Just loves nature. The other one, my boy, hes scared of bugs and so on, and gets freaked out at the sight of a dead animal. He likes plants but its not as much a fascination as it is for my girl. Every kids different, but we can try to share our passions nevertheless!
