Identification Request Please
    #22177423 - 09/02/15 09:05 AM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I'm curious if someone can help identify some of the most common species found within my locality.  Most of species were found on a nearby mountain.

1.

2.

3.

4.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

#3 looks to be Amanita pantherina.
And the first two are boletus species.

Thanks for your educated guess regarding pic 3.  I also suspect it could be some sort of Amanita.

I hope others will chime in.

I know the panther cap is similar in appearance to the fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) but has a brownish or brown cap. It yields a white spore print and is easily confused with the nonpoisonous and non-psychoactive pearl mushroom, also called the blusher because of its tendency to turn red when bruised. The panther cap is found almost exclusively in deciduous and fir woods.  Which is exactly where I found it.

I guess I need to go and touch it to see if it is a Pantherina or a Blusher.

Any guesses on the other pics?

So the first two are some kind of Boletus species.

4.  Could the last one be a Ganoderma Resinaceum?

but seriously, although it seems most of what you find on the net is anecdotal, there's also broad interest in it due to it being a ganoderma

people use it apparently

Asian "Ganoderma applanatum" is roughly as potent as the Asian red reishi. Though it contains a different set of compounds. Whether or not that translates to the 5-10 other species in the G.applanatum complex from around the world...

Hi Mrcloudy,

I've copied and pasted your description of Ganoderma applanatum from your guide to North American Ganoderma in case others were also curious.

Mrcloudy says, "This group is  relatively easy to distinguish. Color ranges from slate grey, to orange brown. Small pores on a clean white surface bruising instantly to a dark brown. Specimens tend to be very very hard with a woody interior.Often times regrowing in consecutive years leaving a stacked pore surface.Pores will be small, round, very regular 3-4 per mm.There are several related species with similar morphology on either coast, and to be entirely honest I haven't paid much attention in distinguishing them. Some species include Ganoderma annulare, Ganoderma brownii, and Ganoderma "applanatum". Ganoderma applanatum was originally described from Europe, but some authors prefer the name G.lipsiense, Which leaves me confused as to the proper use of "G.applanatum" in North America. Many members of this group exhibit a sort of stacked growth resembling something like a stack of pancakes, G.lobatum, and G.brownii most notably."

Mrcloudy has much more information on the following link MRCLOUDYS GUIDE TO NORTH AMERICAN GANODERMA

I thank all who took the time to reply.
