Anyone know if a Magnolia tree is suitable for lions mane?
    #22174361 - 09/01/15 03:02 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I have a friend who is into gourmet cooking and happens to have a magnolia tree that she is cutting down. I mentioned to her that we could plug the stump and grow either shiitake or lions mane. Do you know if the tree is suitable for either?
Thanks.

It's a hardwood evergreen.

It may work . The bark has antifungal properties and not sure about the wood. I would assume it would. If it fails at first you can wait a year after it has dried out.

Just wondering if you ever followed through on this, and if so, how it turned out? I have a magnolia I'm interested in trying this with!
