First time Pleurotus Djamor

Hello!

I've been following this forum for about a year and just started growing edible mushrooms. Since I'm in a subtropical climate, I picked these high temperature pink oysters. I've got the spawn from http://www.homegreen.nl/ (I hope these links are allowed for reference) and, while it looked weakly fluffy on agar, it's growing nicely on grain (if I'm not growing cobweb or something else by mistake).

This is how it looks on agar. Mycelium is very thin and can barely be seen on fully grown plates:

And this is on rye grain, the ones on the right weren't shaked; the ones on the left were shaked, so I won't shake future jars unless they're over a liter.

Everything is growing slower from what I expected of Pleurotus Djamor, but then I'm new to this, so it's possibly the normal pace, or maybe the original culture was a bit old.

Curiously I didn't make holes to these jars, so I just unscrewed the lids a little bit after 3-4 days, and it looks healthy. I'm a bit worried about humidity loss, though.

What bags do you use for Pleurotus substrate? any plastic bag will do, or need specific filtered or material bags? Do these bags need holes during incubation, or I can let them incubate closed and open holes for fruiting? is ambient humidity needed during incubation?

Thank you very much!

The slow growth is most likely due to the fact that you didnt provide any holes for gas exchange. Also, unless you briefly cracked the lids in a sterile environment i.e. a glovebox or in front of a flowhood, the uncolonized grains would be completely susceptible to contamination entering and germinating.

Pink oysters are pretty hardy and tough from everything I've read. So while it was a bad idea to open then in an unsterile environment, they could be fine still.
