Hello again, Would this be a good monotub for using with 10 x 500ml jars of grain spawn? Roughly 5 quarts. I will probably have more like 7 quarts if I can find the jars.

I'm having trouble tracking down a decent box, especialy one with enough height. Thanks.

I don't see why 5 qts wouldn't work in that. Also mushrooms are smart. They just bend if they hit the roof. You should see eats funny low roof chamber :P

That box is fine. Says its 31 inches tall. Gives plenty of room for a 2-4in substrate as well as the fruits.

Thanks Mad Season, good news.
That's 31cm high I'm affraid. About 12 inches. And that is an external measurement I think, probably 10-11 inches internal.

Ahhh. You European folks. That should still be tall enough.

It'll be tall enough. Your fruits will get all bent and tangled tho if you get a good pinset

Hahahaha yeah I know right Buck! Here in England we use a crazy mix of metric and imperial, it can get confusing! The rest of Europe sticks to purely metric at least.
To make matters worse we have and English quart and an English gallon, both different to yours.
Should be fun! Thanks Mad Season

Oh! one more question, does a monotub have to be clear? I have a red one with a black lid that is 60 quarts, would this do? Thanks

During fruiting, you'll have a tough time getting adequate light to the surface of the tub. If you can switch the lid for a clear one, then that'd work well, or get a new tub and avoid the hassle and frustration in the long run.
I remember going to Wal-mart looking for tubs and got a clear tub with a solid white lid. I was walking back to car when I realized this and was like..fuckkk!!

Hey Jim, Just wondering if the "really useful box" worked well? I've noticed they have holes all around the top below the lid... I'm a complete noob, but got a bit overexcited and have been noccing up bags of grain like a nutter. Now I've got a few days left until lockdown, need more box's but don't want to buy a load of the wrong type.. Probably gonna go unmodified.. Any tips for this type of box?.. Or any more suitable box's this side of the pond..? Thanks

Great, thanks.. Yeah bods unmodified is what I was looking at trying but he mentioned that it was specific to the type of box he uses and the really useful box does look like it has a fair gap around the lid which I was considering taping up partially during colonisation.. But now I'm thinking of doing holes and polyfil because my shed is a little smelly.. And tiny bit of mildew /mould so misting and fanning probably won't be the way to go?
