Your cake looks fine to me. I have some pictures below to show some things to look for. You want more of a thread like growth with a slight fuzziness. You do NOT want a "cottony-like" growth shown in several pictures on link #1. "Dactylium"
Link #1 http://http://www.shroomery.org/5276/What-are-common-contaminants-of-the-mushroom-culture
Link #2
Another example of what ya dont want.
Link #3 A similar thread to this one http:// If you look at the first picture here he has a slight bit of cobweb mold growing on healthy mycelium. His mycelium is a lil bit to strand-like and should be a bit "fuzzier" but the cotton look is not what you want... Link #4 i have some pictures of healthy looking cakes. I didn't read the information they have there though. http://www.earthstongue.com/pinning
Your pics are a bit fuzzy but hopefully these links help.
I think your fine. Keep it going. Only time will tell. Good Luck.

Thanks a lot!! I'm already seeing progress of the thread-like thing you were talking about. I'm really excited to collect the first flush!!

Yea, if you want to keep your cakes going I would clone a mushroom of the cake that is much further along. It seems that mycelium is much more vigorous than the other ones. Vigorous mycelium colonized so quick that contaminants aren't able to take over. It looks to be your most desirable genetics.
Did you start these from spores?

Its fluffing up like that because they are dry. You want to keep the surface glistening wet 24/7 WITH NO POOLING WATER. Mist the cakes and perlite DIRECTLY (but also lightly). Not the walls of the chamber.

Yeah i ordered spores online and frankly i thought it was a joke when i saw how cheap they were! And BTW the strain is golden teacher, do you think they have like a special ability to grow super-fast or resist contam?

Yes I think GT is a very good strain, and produces some large fruits! It's on my wish list
Starting from spores means you have all potential genetic material in that variety. If you isolate the faster colonizing mycelium it will get even better and be more consistent. You can also clone your bigger fruits and this will give you more desirable genetics that are more prone to fruiting
All large scale mushroom growers "culture" their varieties to select what traits are most desirable for them. Generally you want fast colonizing bigger fruits, but this isn't always the case, some peeps look for variety among their genetics for uniqueness...
Your "fluffier" cake with the most growth looks like your faster genetics and has colonized better... This could be due to better substrate mix, better environment, better colonization of the cake before birthing, etc etc... There could be thousands of different factors, but one thing still remains...... Whatever u did to that cake it seems to like what your doing better than the others, so it's most likely gonna bode well for you as you continue...
IMO I would wait for fruits though before making any isolation decisions We are all desiring the best fruits, so wait to see how everything pans out, you may have several to chose from. Sometimes it's hard to chose which one u want to run with
There is much information on here to read from. Some is good some is bad, but if you keep reading you will be able to decipher what's what...
Those cakes need to be glistening! With no standing water,,, once the glistening is gone you should mist again, make sure there's no standing water... When I grew cakes I remember misting and fanning seemed like a constant process, but since you have a sgfc you only may need to mist, i would do it multiple times a day, but not too much, 3 to 4 times a day should be sufficient.
Sorry for the long post! Good luck!
