One thing I noticed them,i opened them is that it looks like the corn on top possibly had a mold or grew a fuzz? Just a few kernels. A brownish color. The reason I suspected bacteria is because I could have sworn I seen a picture of a jar that had bac.and it looked like weak mycelium. Just checking with the pro's.

So ppp, are you saying it's a bacterial infection? That's what my hunch was, so toss these out correct? Thanks for the quick response!

Yea they look bacterial to me, the one on the left is not as bad as the one on the right. Bacteria won't really have a smell to it, if it does its not enough to over power the mushroom smell.

You need to leave more space in the jar and use less grain. You want to build up C02 in the jar for mycelium to grow and not "knot", but you also want a slight bit of air for your grain to breathe and not ferment.
Maybe that will help you avoid this next time.
PS: I dont like corn... it gets very squishy and hard to break up. It may colonize faster, but fruits do not seem as good using it. This is still your decision, though. I just would advise sticking to one spawn material per container for uniformity. that way your brewing up "consistency".
Good Luck

Thanks guys! Ya I seen to overfill sometimes. Won't do that again. Ya new wbs I don't like it much either. So would you say Chuck it or spawn and see what happens? Is that safe? Don't wanna mess up my lungs or anything

You can try spawning it and see what happens but by the looks of them the tub will more than likely contaminate on ya. You could also think about just casing the jars and fruiting them.

I think I'll throw them,it a sgfc in some aluminum trays. Is it safe tho? I don't have to worry about weird stuff in the air judging by the jars right?

Bacteria isn't mold or fungus so it doesn't produce spores
It can lead to other contams finding a foothold from the bacteria weakening your mycelium, but it shouldn't put stuff in the air lol... Unless that bacteria develops wings !!
Just kidding U can do this but you will need to keep a heavy eye on it for discoloration. Also if it smells bad, "are you gunna eat it?"
Do you have more spores or culture? You would probably be better off putting your effort into starting fresh.
Exposure to air could possibly kill ur bacteria, it has happened before, I just don't wanna say its safe cuz I don't want u to get sick... I am interested to see how it goes though if u do move forward..
I would bet against success, but it's an experience for you to learn from...

I have a feeling it was because the jars got a little warm I had moved them to a stupid spot. I should have known better. Honestly if it's good practice and generally accepted to toss them, I will have no problem doing that. I'll give the g2g another shot with a good jar.

It is the better route in my opinion. My friend is lazy and often gets fruits off bacterial cakes or casings, but I don't eat them usually. He just fruits them misting very little so as not to re-moisten the bacteria, his yields are poor and his fruits usually very hard and tough to chew when he does this. And he is sick ALL the time, whether his cakes cause this I can't say, but he doesn't eat shrooms but like once a month. He's just lazy as hell!
It's just a bad practice to get into, plus if your unsure about them you may not trip "comfortably"
I've eaten his once and they were probably ok, but I was unsure and everything bothered me during the trip... I felt like I was wet and had pissed my pants... I hadn't though and this lasted for hours, I kept checking only to find I hadn't pissed my pants. It felt like forever and I think it was only because I was unsure of them in the first place.
It's a lot of work but ya could start a grow thread and get a lot of great insight and information from other shroomery members.
Good luck

dw. I get the paranoia, but this will eventually just get lost in the contamination forum, where noobs will find it and wonder if they have bacteria
