Is This Trich?

The black spot has always been there, so I thought the verm might have gotten pushed down. The spot is over an inoculation hole. This is a brf cake. The jar smells like potting soil.

It could be verm, definitely not trich (that'd be green). I say fruit it in your SGFC and let it do it's thing!!

*sigh* It was fine this morning. I checked this evening and this happened. I should have known something was up because it was my slowest jar.

I taped up the lid holes and will promptly shitcan first thing in the am.

If you want to save the jar, you can re-sterilize it for 40 minutes. Tossing glass gets expensive and is shitty for the planet. Learn to save them.
The potting soil smell had be concerned. Mold often has a dirty/musty/earthy smell, but not always. You'll learn over time when something smells wrong.

That's what I did, sorta. I gave the cake a burial ceremony and then washed the jar with the brown lysol. Then baked the jar at 250 for an hour.
I'm sorry if that post was misleading. I see how it could have been worded better.

You should sterilize the jar before opening it, not after.

Well, I did make that mistake, but I do know better than to open a questionable jar inside. I understand. Sterilizing the jar beforehand would have killed it there.
Thank you for the sterilization tip. My giggled with germaphobic glee at the thought of dying bacteria.

The bacteria in your body, that comprise you, outnumber your human cells 10 to 1.
Humans very much are part bacteria.

In 2012, I caught an antibiotic resistant infection and needed 2 operations to remove it. During that time, I was on massive doses of antibiotics (vancomycin, ceftazidime, cubicin) and to this day, I still can't fight off skin infections. I was told by several doctors that, if I needed antibiotics again, I'd have to get the intravenous ones because I am now allergic to the ones that actually work.
I'd rather be overly cautious than be on intravenous antibiotics.

That is some serious stuff, I can understand your concern. Even if there would be no real risk, feeling safe is what counts.
Right now I am re-cooking some sick jars (closed) ... please, giggle with me for killing the trich
Love, Hanz.

ShroomerInTheRye, there are ways to teach your immune system, to strengthen it. Your immune system needs to learn to fight these invaders.
Ironically, mushrooms(medicinal mushrooms), can very much help with this. They're a sacred medicine.
