Learning from your mistakes
    #2217120 - 01/03/04 07:59 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

I think that it is a rationalization for someone to cite the lessons they have learned in attempt to defend the mistakes they have made.

It has been said that people learn best through experience and that great lessons can be learned from failure and personal mistakes. But I think that the same knowledge could be gained simply from thinking.

I THRIVE on making mistakes, falling down, self-reflecting, learning and starting from scratch. And I learn even better when I do it publically.

This came from a thread on these boards and it is exactly what I am talking about. I could conjecture right now that it would be BAD to get shitfaced and drive 100 mph through an area with heavy pedestrian traffic...I would not have to test this hypothesis to gain this knowledge.

Yes! Very much so! This is the art and science of Conceptualizing. For me, experiences supports concept.

Look at Einstein and his Thought Experiments. Was he required to travel along side a beam of light in order to create his Theory of Relativity? No...he did it sitting at work, in the Pattent Office, entirely inside his own mind.

The power of the Concept is not something to overlook...

As I understand it, the Greeks were quite fond of conceptualization...even though it introduced erroneous ideas such as heavy things fall faster.

Yes, this is where experience does come in to play a role.

There are Theoretical Physicists...and Experimental Physicists. I suppose neither could exist without the other
