Coprinus comatus... Cloning?
    #22171113 - 08/31/15 08:27 PM (8 years, 4 months ago)

I have been finding shaggy manes popping up in my neighborhood one by one...

I have been leaving them thinking that they will produce a harvestable amount later on.... HOWEVER I have a neighborhood terrorist that is picking them before I am able to collect spores....
THEY are throwing them in the middle of the road to get squished, sooooo:

Is it possible to clone shaggy manes? I am not finding any literature on it, but I may try to pick the next one and try it any way,,, maybe on some WBS or rye, maybe paper towel to rye.

Anyone here ever tried to clone shaggy manes and been successful before they go all "inky"?????

:mypleasure:

In my opinion, you -should- be cloning them over taking a spore print which would be a crapshoot of genetic chaos. Pick some nice robust >young Coprinus pins/mushrooms and clone their tissue to retain that phenotype.

Cloning is the way to go for pretty much every Gourmet/Medicinal mushroom out there.:sunny:

I agree with cloning being better, especially sine coprinus sp don't put out dry spores but rather a spore liquid..

I just like multi spore as I can pick what I want from the "genetic crapshoot".

You think I could slice the stipe and place the slices in bags with moist paper towels?
These grow on poo, rye, and WBS so it's not wood loving but I think I will try this method of paper towel or cardboard since I don't have access to agar at this moment.

If that works I can always easily cook up some of the rye I have lying around and start some spawn for casing or colonize a jar to bury outside for next year or later this year

Hmmmm... Oh the possibilities. :smirk:
