First WBS Jars

Hi everyone first off! I have read a lot over the past years here and finally jumped in. I made some WBS jars, PC for 2 hours, and sadly had some stuff come up and left them too long I think. I am curious though if they where really ever "good" as they always looked cob webby to me and not the normal dense white.
I have fully fruited before but bought everything pre sealed and PC'ed, this was my first attempt at buying my own raw materials and PC.Contamination from the start or just weak growth?

looks like it might be myc, how does it smell? how old are they?
For future reference, 2 hours is probably a tad long. Too long can be do more harm than good.

Ya I have been seeing more like 75min. They are like 3 months old :s. Honestly they smell just like the bags I did, kinda that plain mushroom smell so I was thinking of possibly going for it since I am also testing out making my own casing.
I see people microwave their casing instead of PC, I assume just for ease but is that really better? My kitchen isn't the cleanest or inside the microwave, I feel like a PC would be much better and safer for contamination.

Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you want to pasteurize casing, not sterilize.
Here's a link about proper pasteurization. works the same for casing http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17246844#17246844
I say if they smell/look okay you might as well try to spawn them. Have you read about dunking grain spawn? You might want to try that since they're old, and get them re-hydrated. Just pour water in the jars for like 30 minutes and drain it before spawning.
I never bothered to try microwaving because I have a PC. Seems risky to me, but plenty of people on here get away with it. Even the old hands use microwaves sometimes.

i think it looks bacterial. but they are also 3 months old. 2 hours for grains is ok. i think most do 1.5 hours, but 2 is still ok. rblazer is right, if ur using peat, u want to pasteurize it, not sterilize. if ur using coir or verm, they can be sterilized safely
i never used a microwave for casings, so can't comment.

what makes you say that about bacteria? (I'm really bad at spotting such things.)

well, the 3 months may have something to do with it, but that very white thick growth is actually cube mycelium, but its responding to the presence of bacteria by swelling up like that. depending on if the bacteria originated from poor grain sterilization, or the culture itself, it can look like different things.

I have a PC so I would rather just do that for the Coir/Verm casing. Just was thinking of the easiest way to PC a large amount at once cheaply, ok to use large ziplock bags in PC, keeping them from direct contact with the bottom.

What you guys want are spawn bags. Lots of the vendors sell them. Pressure cook-able plastic bags with filters for GE, so you can grow in bags.
edit: Looks like i jumped the gun posting that, but I'm not going to delete it.

figured, do you need to vac seal or you think be good just taping down the tops? For ease I am thinking of a verm/coir casing.

Them jars look awful full. No room to shake. I don't think I see anything bad in them besides the fact that the top isn't colonized. But that could be due to a few things including dying out
-------------------- Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

Lack of moisture possibly contribute to it dying out? These jars seemed to take forever to show signs of colonization.
