Using dogs to sniff out actives?

I appologize if this is the wrong area to post this, it seemed most suitable, however I feel it may be inappropriate, given that it is not directly linked to Personal hunting, or ID tags.
I wonder, could you train your dog to sniff out Active mushrooms, the same way drug dogs are used to sniff out narcotics. Im assuming, yes, with enough training a dog could sniff out anything...but has anyone ever heard of using dogs to sniff out active mushrooms in the woods? hmmmm

Well they've been trained to sniff out truffles, so to the lay person such as myself it seems plausible, but perhaps a dog trainer might dispute otherwise.

one could easily train a dog to sniff for something like a generic farinaceous scent.
i trained a chesapeake retriever to smell copper once; she was uncanny good. she could smell which plastic easter egg out of a lineup of five of them had a copper penny in it. she could even tell which one had a penny placed in it and then removed after a few mins.

I gotta buddy with a pooch can smell p. cyan myc in the ground still. He just trained him the same way you train em to identify anything. He used his outdoor beds at home, put chips with cyan myc in a cup first. got the dog to find that, then moved to small spots outdoor.now they go to the park year round and mark spots. His trigger word is "do your business" so when people see him bending down they think he's picking up poop!
