accidental casing :)
    #2216703 - 01/03/04 03:07 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

Hello all, a couple of weeks ago I set  a couple of cakes in a fruiting chamber using wet paper towels to hold the moisture instead of perlite. I was being lazy . Well, anyway, I placed the cakes directly on top of the paper towels and within days I had mycelium growing on the paper towels. Within two weeks the cakes finished their first flush and the paper towels were almost completely covered with mycelium growth! So, as an experiment I put a thin layer of vermiculite on top of the paper towels and now my second flush is starting from both the paper towels and the cakes! And it looks like this is going to be a really good flush

Kinda interesting cause I figured this was going to be a bust cause I lost most of my jars to a yellow-brown mold :frown:.

Haha, good job man. Keep us updated on if they paper towels fruit or not and how much ya get. Kinda curious about how well the towels would flush since there'd be such a thin layer of myc.

yep...happened to me too(no paper but in a plate with verm). but note that you just increased the fruiting surfice, not the fruiting amount(the nutrd are still the same)

but in the overall is a very nice phenomenon...

What would you suggest to increase the yield? Should I follow some of the basic casing teks to turn it into a casing? Might a 50/50 verm/peat mix work or should I do a little more? I really want to experiment with this and see where it goes.

Anyway, so far the shrooms are growing well on the paper towels . I will post some pictures when they get a little bigger.
