Vending at festivals Advise & Insights ?

So I went to my 1st festival, & it might sound crazy, but I've already had thoughts about seriously getting my own vendor tent set up to sell TyeDye, Hempnecklaces, bracelets, etc. That whole Shin-Dig, & not only that,, forgot to mention my two buddies for life who are down,, we're musicians ourselves ,to be able to play our music at these festivals & Vend to the people,, I even have vision for Projection of light on trees and what not for the Visual experience. I'm really wanting to get my own thing going and we'll have the whole package in one. And holy shit, bringing shroom chocolates I've homegrown myself & whatnot,,,delicious exotic weed edibles,, we would even brig a supply of that with us like I feel like it could get to a point where people who run festivals will here our name and want us to be a part of what they have. So, I want to know if anybody is like doing this and tell me what's up, and idk I just want some feedback cause I met allot of people at HyperionFestival who got there thing going it seems like a really good way to make money, get into the music scene, have fun, and open my mind to a lot more. The only thing I noticed about the people I meet is they where one part of it,, either musically,, with their Art,, or Vending. I'm wanting to be it all cause I know I have it all you know?

u have to contact festivals months in advance to try and get a spot for a vendor booth, and it's hella expensive. but if u can't, u can still sell ur shit without a vendor license in the campgrounds and shouldn't be bothered too much, just stay away from cops nd the like so u don't get kicked out.

not sure how it works selling the sorts of things you are discussing ....hypothetically. And also divide your gigantic paragraph up a bit next time....
But yea i would start doing what Sheekle said about contacting a nearby festival with your questions in preparation for next time. Gives you even more time to create more of your wares as well as work on your music.
Best of luck!

My mom has done some food booth vending at some local festivals and like they said it is expensive stuff, especially for food since you need a license and stuff.
I have always wanted to travel and vend at festivals too but so many of them are so expensive you really need to be business minded and focus on making $
Which seems stressful to me since it can be a big investment, of course you can make decent to good money and have a blast in the process
Starting locally is definitely a good way to go about it, around here there are some cheaper smaller fests.
I want to look into playing music at a local fest more than vending at this point. Even busking would be nice.

Sheekle doesn't know shit about vending at a festival
It's not hella expensive at a lot of them, and you don't necessarily have to get in months in advance - though it helps to be prepared... what will really help you out, and make for a smooth enjoyable experience... is to figure out the people who put on the whole vending show and get close... Ive managed to get a free booth up and running for very cheap with only a few days heads up several times now. Also, if you don't want to pay upfront sometimes festivals will cut you a deal like '20% of your sales up to 150$' for example.
Since you are a musician always be prepared to make some noise... start up jams around your booth frequently, you'll attract your own little crowd with ease and that's good for business The visual projection is a great idea too. And don't be afraid to bring mushroom chocolates and edibles based on possible cops ... if you're savvy on how to market such items without catching unwarranted attention, pretty basic stuff... have fun

Don't listen to Twighead, he's actually a very bad person in general although that's entirely irrelevant to the topic of this thread.
Any large-scale festival that's been going on for consecutive years typically has the same vendor booths every year, and so if you want to try and get yourself a booth it's probably best to try and book a position as long before the festival as possible. Also, most charge about $200-$300 for the booth on top of the ticket price, or something like that.
I'd recommend trusting my word over Twighead's roughly 100% of the time, personally. Although the judgement is obviously up to you.

Why don't you two stop being little bitches. Both of you have experience with this, yet nobody is actually giving OP any details. For example, if you get a booth at a festival, do they take care of the legal and taxation issues. If you go it alone, you will have to arrange to get a permit or tax ID to sell in that state, as Sheekle discovered. If you are selling legit legal merchandise, then stay away fron selling drugs too unless you want to get hit with conspiracy and criminal enterprise charges and having your assets seized.

Depending the size and credibility of the festival, some places charge you $1500+ to vend food at their fest. Some will even charge higher prices for better vending spots. I know a few people who do this and can make $$$. Sometimes upwards of 10k on large festivals after paying employees and overhead cost.

I've been asked to pay 500$ at a highly commercialized festival that drew about ~2,000 people, and paid about 100$ at a better, more chill festival that must've drawn around 10,000... It's best to stay away from the ones that have outgrown their own britches in greed.

Look on www.jambase.com for festivals near you and email the people running them about next year now to talk about prices. Smaller festivals aren't going to charge you as much as bigger ones but they won't make you as much money either.

See, all the more reason to never trust anything Twighead EVER says, on ANY subject matter. He probably vends at like 100 person dubstep festivals nd shit. Listen to Lysergic D, he's been pushing human meat as chicken at vendor booths for years.

Will your immature butthurt pang you forever? It's embarrassing to see you're still full on man-baby.
I've vended at Lucidity the last couple years, which generally has about 5000-10,000 people - the people who set it up are super badass and only charged 100$ each time...
And a good handful of other places... My point being that small festivals in Seattle have tried to charge 500$ for small attendance and the aforementioned Lucidity which is much bigger charged much less... Lightning in a bottle was about 300$ and WTFestival wanted 400$ but didn't do that one... Inlakesh was 50$ as was Peace Village, which were about 1000 attendance... so you just gotta be smart about who/where you vend at/with.

A lot of festivals make no money and are run by people that just want to throw a cool party. Those are the best ones to vend at.
