I ate some "Angel Wings"...is that okay?

So I found some mushrooms believed to be oyster, but come to find they were actually Pleurocybella porrigens. My wife and I ate them for dinner, and upon further researching it seems these are considered edible, but there have been associated deaths.
These particular ones were found in Georgia.
Any thoughts here? I've read the only associated problems were all in Japan and many people in the US eat these, but looking for some fellow experts to chime in here on this topic.

I read that the victims were elderly and/or had pre-existing immune system disorders.

Yes. I also read this was only in Japan. Was this the same mushroom? Why is it listed as edible yet 60 people have died?
Is the version of this mushroom in the US okay to consume? I have read many people consume it in the US and David Aurora even lists it as a choice edible.
But would really like some reassurance that my wife wont end up with brain damage from a foray I went on. I would feel like an A**hole.

I do not have pictures.
I am pretty much 100% sure they are angel wings.
I have picked and consumed mushrooms from the wild on many occasions and of many different varieties but I have never eaten oysters from the wild. When i found them I thought the looked flimsier than oysters, but upon researching look alikes online I cam upon numerous reources that assured oysters are the easiest to identify with no poisonous look alikes.
After eating I decided to spend some more time looking it up just for extra reassurance and came upon angel wings which filled the gap for some of the flimsier attributes I found with the angel wings.
All that said, it says they are edible in North America, but also says they are not. So need some insight on some kind of definitive answer so I can reassure my wife. It seems to me that enough people eat them that its fine, but its strange that 60 people in Japan died. Then again, we are in the US, so its a different mushroom.
But yeah, that's kind of where I'm at right now. Thanks for the help in advance!

I will go back soon and take pics.
But from what I've read Angel Wings are fine to eat except for this 1 minor incident where 14 people died...lol
Granted they had kidney problems, ate a lot and were in Japan, but still. Kind of weird.

Hey guys, these are the same mushrooms.
Any insight here on the verdict? Are angel wings in North America okay to eat...?

you have any ill effects from yours?
it probably would fall under the 'try a little before you try a lot' catagory they suggest for most wild mushrooms
problem i have with that is maybe a little really isn't enough to cause you problems
as with most things, moderation is probably the key.
anyone know if all those Japanese people were related in any way? could be a significant factoid.

Hey thanks for the response.
To your questions: - No ill effects for me, but my reading suggests onset takes 2-3 weeks. - We ate probably a handful between us -Japanese people were all elderly and had pre-existing Kidney problems.
