Habitat:
Found these guys in May at about 5500 feet. I find them mainly in spring (I have found them throughout the summer, but especially in the wild I don't find them once summer starts, but it is very arid here once summer starts) and have been collecting them for a couple years now...usually the same types of places, uncultivated grassy areas with hardwood trees like cottonwood, birch, russian olive (an invasive species here). usually near our main river and a large creek, although once found three at about 8000 feet and under aspens. They are always growing from the ground, sandy soil.
I have found them some summers in parks that are near a different creek that runs through town, where the city regularly irrigates.

Gills:
dark gray, they do not seem attached, although they go all the way to the stem, they seem to hang freely, very small detail on these guys, and difficult to say exactly.

Stem:
The stems are fairly hardy, for their size. they vary in color between specimens, but generally have a reddish tint, they often have little lines (not straight up and down though) on them. I can't comment on whether they are hollow or not...I know I have observed in the past, but I can't remember now.

Cap:
I am not very good at shapes of caps, but they are seen pretty well in the pictures. They also vary in color and appear darker in these pictures than at the time I picked them.

Spore print color: Appear to be a true black. I apologize for the picture with the shadows, I wanted to put the spore prints in as natural light as possible and that created shadow.

Bruising:
Not any really apparent bluing at the base, I have only seen it on a few of my specimens a couple years ago. Those came from a lawn, actually, but a lawn recently installed (was at my house) and the whole area had to be dug out first.

Other information:
They are very mushroomy in smell (if that is a worthless description, I apologize).

I hope these pictures are ok. I had to cut them down quite a lot to get them to size requirement.
