post story in thread?
Quote:
AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — Police say they've busted an illegal psychedelic mushroom growing operation in South Austin.
It happened at a home in the 6300 block of Berkeley Cove, just northwest of the Manchaca Road and William Cannon intersection and close to Cunningham Elementary School.
Officers in hazmat suits could be seen going into the house Thursday morning. Police say two rooms were filled with equipment and mushrooms ready to be harvested.
No one has been arrested and police have not yet named any suspects. Neighbors at the scene say they're used to seeing a large amount of cars coming in and out of the cul-de-sac going into the home. But they were surprised the illegal grow operation was going on in their neighborhood.

Hmm no arrests yet, if it was a member here I doubt they'll l be putting their hand up. I would almost bet they were being shipped, no way theyd be selling out of that house, if they were smart at least.. Interesting wonder how they got caught, even more interesting is I wonder how many people got to eat their shrooms before they got busted

Hold on, I just read about this on another link... http://www.cbsnews.com/news/austin-cops-raid-home-find-grow-room-full-of-psychedelic-mushrooms/?ftag=YHF4eb9d17
And the police chief says, "mushrooms, when you disturb them they emit a spore and if you breathe that in, they can cause you to have health issues and sometimes it could be fatal."
Seriously, doesn't somebody need to punish this bullshit?

People listen to the police though. Average people consider the police "experts" when it comes to drugs. People are reading this article and this appears to them as an expert opinion on drugs. They will in turn believe that psilocybin mushrooms do indeed emit spores that can be fatal.
Do you have any question as to how the laws became the way they are now?

Their life will never be the same and for what? A natural fungi? I have a feeling a hundred years from now drugs will be legal or at least decriminalized and our childrens children will look back upon us with disgust. In the meantime it's better to be safe than sorry. That's why I avoid doing anything that could get me serious time like growing.

i come down with a 102-104F fever when I inhale shiitake spores. About 6 hours after exposure. It may not be fatal but I sure feel like I'm dying. So, yeah, spores are hazardous.

So....the police are "waiting for the rest to dry" Why don't they just look it up.....90% water. I counted 39 tubs, he was not getting nearly the quantity he should have been. Imagine the amount of work that goes in to maintaining 40 tubs. Well, I know it was plenty of work.

You're being serious, not sarcastic, right? Just have to make sure..
Are you sure it wasn't the result of allergies maybe? And do you think that inhaling a psilocybin species' spore would cause an equal reaction?
I will admit I've never grown before, but from using them I knew that if they did emit a spore which was deadly to inhale, I would probably be dead by now... Though maybe there are growing processes that I don't know about which expose growers to things that users aren't exposed to, or in lesser amounts.
But as soon as I read that mushrooms emit a "fatal" spore, a red bullshit flag immediately went off in my head.

Some people are seriously allergic to spores.
I can't say that I've heard of anyone having an issue with cube spores in particular, but it can and does happen.
I doubt the police are going to shut down any shiitake grows because of this though.

It's posts like this that really get to me, of coarse we know stropharia cubensis spores are harmless, but most people who read stuff like this are expecting the article to inform them on the issues...
Honestly mushrooms have been sanctioned by thousands of years of human use, there is religious and medicinal/shamanic use of psilocybe fungi, the active compounds are benign, there's only been a few deaths attributed to psilocin, one case involved a heart transplant patient, the rest are murky at best...
So if these mushrooms can't hurt anybody than why the backlash? It can't be the "drug" aspect of it, Americans love drugs, they buy them at every store in every town, so it's not the drug aspect that's bothering them, it must be what the drugs are doing that makes them uncomfortable...Leary once said "LSD is known to cause psychotic behavior in people who have never ingested it" meaning just knowing this stuff exists drives them crazy...
There's also the aspect of culture control, they can't make being a "hippie" or "anti-capitalist" into a crime, so they criminalize the cultures harmless practices...It's been going on since the Spanish reached the new world to find psychedelic plant using natives...
I think the "mushroom cultivaror", "DMT brewer/extractor" and the "LSD Chemists" should be revered and respected positions in society, not quite like the shaman, more like the people who give the shaman access to his plant tools...
That's So many mushrooms to fall into the hands of the police, where they will be mistreated, mishandled, disrespected, and worst yet unconsumed by any explorer...

So it's basically just allergies then?
Would a non-allergic person have any trouble inhaling spores?

I've read that inhaling massive quantities of spores over a long period of time (years) cam cause people to develop allergies to spores. It has to do with your immune system after repeated and prolonged exposure. Supposedly this happens to people who work in mushroom farms.
Its still pretty amazing to see that most comments on the video are in favor of the mushies, yet there is still laws against them. Is there some sort of advocacy group for shrooms? If there is, How can I donate? People need to learn the truth and the justice system should focus on justice, not incrimination.

None of the psychedelics belong in schedule I, schedule I means: °no medical value °high abuse/addiction potential °dangerous
All of the classic psychedelics are physically benign: As senior LSD researcher Dr. David Nichols, Distinguished Chair of Pharmacology at Purdue University and head of one of the world's top LSD research labs, stated in his 2004 review article on hallucinogens, "There is no evidence that any of the hallucinogens, even the very powerful semisynthetic LSD, causes damage to any human body organ. [...] Hallucinogens do not cause life-threatening changes in cardiovascular, renal, or hepatic function because they have little or no affinity for the biological receptors and targets that mediate vital vegetative functions-erowid. Meaning these compounds are NOT dangerous, and have been sanctioned by thousands of years of human use, we look at these cultures who have used psychedelics for generations, and we do not see deformities, or anything to indicate chromosome damage, we don't see high cancer rates, we don't see high rates of mental illness, we see these people have incorporated these compounds into their culture for generations without ill effect. We also have the modern pharmacological data showing these compounds are very safe, we have ED50 to LD50 ratios confirming that it would actually be difficult to even reach a toxic dose with the majority of the classic psychedelics, even LSD is very safe, but because it's active in micrograms it may be easier to reach a toxic dose, though many people have taken extremely large doses of LSD and recovered without incident.
All of the classic psychedelics are not addictive, you can not become physically dependant, thus they can not be considered addictive, because of rapid tolerance daily use is exceedingly difficult causing users to put at least several days between uses, the nature of the psychedelic experience causes one to let go of destructive unexamined compulsions, your more likely to break habits than form them when using psychedelics, and many of the traditional psychedelics such as ayahuasca and ibogaine are being used in addiction treatment with some good success rates.
And last, medical value, all of the classic psychedelics have had some medical value www.maps.org can verify the many ways these compounds can be used to help people psychologically and physically. These compounds have also been in use for thousands of years as medicines by shamans. So saying they have no medical value is absurd.
I'm a psychoactivist and I do all I can as an individual to promote these things in the proper way, using intelligent argument, scientific evidence, historical evidence, religious freedom arguments, as well as plain personal freedom arguements to change minds regarding this subject. I would be willing to help, support, promote, and work for any groups advocating for the decriminalization, spiritual legalization, or out right blanket legalization of the classic psychedelic plants and compounds...

Right? RR almost died and probably would have if his wife didn't find him in their room.
They don't know the guy, he could have had a meth lab in the other room or billions of spores everywhere that someone was allergic to. it can be dangerous to grow, anybody here ever explode a SAB or stab a needle into their finger? I have heard of shroomerites doing both

Never heard of DMT on perforated paper I'm surprised that the neighbors weren't dropping like flies with all of those deadly cubensis spores on the loose....And, oh....what about those poor kiddies at the day care...their brains are probably fried tater tots by now....I hate reading shit like this...honestly, these NEED to come off of schedule 1. Otherwise, we're just gonna hear more and more of these busts, especially since pot is being decriminalized.....cops need something new to attack. Plus, I doubt any mushroom grower is gonna be packin...so, cops get a relatively safe bust...unlike other schedule 1 drugs like crack or heroin.
