Lowering Temp while PC'ing

This weekend I ran two batches through my PC on a gas stove.
Batch 1: 10 Quart Jars of Rye Berries Batch 2: 7 Quart Jars of WBS
I have a Presto 23qt PC and in order to get the 10 jars in there I have to lay three on their sides.
While cooking Batch 1, It took longer than I remembered to get up to pressure, however, once it got to 15psi, I was able to drop the temp very low and still maintain 15.
When I cooked the 7 jars of WBS today, I was able to reach 15psi quicker, but found that when I dropped the heat even slightly, the rocker became noticeably slower.
Is there a scientific explanation to this or is there just something up with my stove/PC?

Yeah you should lower your temps while PC'ing to reduce bursted kernals
Lower slightly when it starts rocking, checking the gauge to make sure it doesnt go below 15psi. Give it a few minutes. If it starts rocking again, lower slightly, checking to be sure it doesnt go below 15psi..
With patience you'll find tht sweet spot..
When you get good enough, you'll be able to PC without the rocker rocking at all.
Also, I use a taped quarter on my rocker weight, so that I can acheive higher psi's (16-17psi)

Exactly. The mass inside was different. An empty pc will heat up faster. What was the water level between the two batches?

Thanks everyone. Thermal mass is pretty interesting.
The water was the same in both runs. I used two fills from the same pitcher on each.

My electric stove used to do that. Ate you letting the steam blow out for ~10 minutes before putting the weight on?

Yeah, I vent for 10min. This is my first time PC'ing on a gas stove. I used to have an electric and I had done 10 jar and 7 jar runs on that and couldn't remember it behaving the same.

PC'ing a full load of glass jars is pretty f***in annoying. It requires many adjustments as the internal temperature approaches the steam temperature. THat's just how it is if you want to minimize water loss from your PC/use less energy.
This is why I truly love PP5 plastic containers. They heat up almost instantly, and the PC requires only one adjustment at 10-20 minutes, very easy to tune in. Pressurizes and depressurizes much more quickly.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...
