My Gyms are growing....these look really orange for luteofolius but the pins look exactly right, then they lose the reddish color as they grow. Im still really skeptical as to what these actually are tbh...

Does Gymnopilus get it's derivation from the word gymnosperm? Why this name?
2nd Q, which is probably less important since Ill never have a verbal discussion, but are these pronounced gym-NAH-pih-lus or gym-no-PILE-us or ...?
"gymno-" means "naked," so in the case of gymnopilus, it means "naked cap" and gymnosperm means "naked seed."

Are these some sort of gymnopilus? I found them growing in my caerulipe habitat and there are thousands of them. They don't smell like gyms, but they kind of look like gyms.

What color is the spore print and can you photograph it? Try to get some better photos in your future hunts and remember that it sometimes take several tries just to get the right shots.

Felt like this thread needed a lil action...
G. Theirsii

Thought they were luteofolius at first, but they never showed any signs of bluing, and they dried to a much darker brown than usual. After further review I'd be inclined to believe they are theirsii.
Good thing I left most of them for the happy lil slug

Not sure what kind of gym this is but it's bruised black from heavy rain?

Any ideas?
