It's Gymnopilus season in North America. Here's a few gymnopilus luteus from last week.

Yes sir, making tea with them is the way to go though. Some lemon juice and water and a bit of honey and you'll be set. Eating them isn't so great, they are rather bitter, and the large ones aren't very strong, so picking them young and drying them seems best if you want to consume the entire mushroom. The pins are much more potent than mature.

I thin I read somewhere that drying gymnopilus reduces potency by a lot.

I haven't noticed much difference in potency between dried and wet. I suppose psilocin content may be a bit lower, but not noticably. I've only used a fan in a cool dark room to dry them, so heat and light may make a difference depending on your drying method/conditions.

Can you describe what your habitat was, had it rained recently, anything else you might think would be helpful to the forum for finding some Gyms.
I love Gyms, and am always trying to see more information on the genus posted here, with our powers combined we can make it happen.
Nice find.

On a single moss covered log in a long ravine with steep sides, waterfalls and caves. With plenty of overhead canopy cover.

Nice!!! I want to check my spot, but it's been SO dry here in New England, doubt there is anything growing.
Are those luteus?

Looks like it, more info though please?
Spore print color? Smell? Stem texture, and pattern? Noticeable greenish bruising? (especially where the stem connects to the base of the cap)
