When I case my monotubs, how long should I wait before fruiting, and should I patch the top layer?

I am currently doing an experiment with the efficiency of low spawn ratios (1:4) on coir/verm/gypsum.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22133690
I also plan to case two of the four tubs to compare performance. I understand that casing cubensis isn't necessary, but I have heard that it can help to avoid mutants on first flushes with Penis Envy. My question is, after I open the lid, case the top of the substrate, then put it back into colonization, how long should I wait before returning to proper fruiting conditions? I have heard it is usually 4 days, but I have also heard when roughly 20% of the substrate appears to have mycelium poking through. Also, once I put the cased tubs into fruiting, should I patch the mycelium that has poked through the casing layer? I have heard that patching can produce a more even pinset. Is it worth doing in your opionion?
I plan on casing with pasteurized jiffy mix, if anyone is wondering.

Is this MS or Isolate? Cause if it's MS it means nothing :/

Well according to your statement it already is in fruiting....

This is all MS. I plan on cloning once I get some fruits. Why do you say that it means nothing?

Sorry, fixed that. I mean to say colonization.

Because MS genetics have literally thousands, probably millions or billions, of variables in each syringe :/
For instance if I knocked up one jar with one syringe and then knocked up a seperate jar with that SAME syringe I still have two different genetics, fruiting potentials, etc.
You want a clone that has been tested thoroughly. You haven't locked down the most important variable and that's fruiting potential. If you have a culture that always produces a full canopy then you know if you change something in the environment and it performs worse then it was a negative change.
It's not useless PER SAY but nothing you do will be concrete evidence just yet. I'd use it as a basis for when you get a good clone/isolate

Okay! I knew that going into this experiment that since it was MS, the results wouldn't be particularly definitive. I would definitely like to repeat this experiment once I have a good clone/isolate. But, that could be a while, considering I am sitting on about 50 quart jars that are close to fully colonized.

I'd be happy as fuck just to have 50 colonizing qt jars. You'll find a keeper somewhere in there. Remember to only clone from first flush.
Pins are great for cloning. Clusters = more yield, big mushrooms = more big mushrooms.

MS or not, the question is still valid. How to best utilize a casing layer?
Any real answers, for the OP?

depends on how it's applied, a simple search will tell you most wait about 30% colonization, patching is optional and anything 1/4 inch or under can be fruited right as it has been applied

Light layer of CVG and straight to fruit or Jiffy/Peat 1/4"-1/2", 30% then fruit. A lot of options actually.
