Mycology related jobs?
    #22160010 - 08/29/15 10:13 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

I've been curious about what kind of jobs are out there for people genuinely fascinated with mushrooms. I would love a job that I could apply and build my mycological skills.

Anyone with experience or knowledge on the matter, please enlighten me.

Also has anyone joined a mushroom foray group? I feel like it would be fun to hunt and learn with other like minded people

that's pretty cool I wonder how much a restaurant or natural food store would buy wild chanterelles, shiitake and other choice edibles for.

I sold a decent haul of golden chanterelles to a natural food store in vermont but I didn't end up weighing them before hand so I'm not sure

they pay a decent amount for them. it's certainly worth it if you get several large baskets.

for some reason i feel like morels go for a lot more than others.

been a while since i watched this on netflix but you might learn something from this episode of filthy riches

but i mean to be honest i don't see how picking wild mushrooms is much of a mycology job, like if you were growing them. also growing would guarantee a consistent pay. i think picking wild shrooms would be a fun hobby to make some extra money at rather than a full time job, for the most part at least.

I was thinking more along the lines of microscopy and data. I have a feeling mushrooms have a strong chance of being used in future medicine. I feel like mushrooms are still a gray area that needs to be explored and there has to be some kind of job relating to that.

anyone offer any insight? Or if anyone knows about any mycological clubs in Connecticut or Vermont?

Can anyone tell me about Alan Rockefellers job?

They have a few indie mushroom farms in the PNW.

Or, anything with strict sterile culture, like Lab tech.
