Need advice on my car

I drive a 98 Acura cl 3.0
Last time I got my oils changed I was told my cv boots are getting worn down and I should replace them. Does anyone have any idea how much this should cost? I found kits online of just the cv boots so I don't think I have to replace the whole axel. Any advice otherwise? All help is greatly appreciated.

Does your car make a knocking or popping sound when you make a turn

The boot is there to keep the grease in, and keep dirt and other abrasive particles out. Once the boot is compromised, the actual CV joint is on its way out. That's why people generally just change out the axel when the boot goes out. Plus the labor is the same or close, might as well change the entire axel.

This is all correct and well stated. However, before you should do anything actually get under the car and check to see if a boot is torn. I find it suspicious that somebody would say that they're "worn down". If your CVs are'nt knocking and there's no sign ov losing grease, then you would have no reason to replace an axle.
You mention getting your oils changed and am curious what type ov place you had this done at. Quick lube places and tire shops will almost always try to upsell you on a repair(at bloated cost and questionable quality ov repair mind) whether you need it or not. It's easy to cut a boot and try to tell the customer that it was torn, and i would'nt be surprised if those type ov places do that if it appears that the customer is auto naïve. I've heard way too many horror stories about unscrupulous quick lube places.

No knocking or popping noises when I turn. The guy who told me this is a guy who does mobile oil changes. He was referred to me by a friend who's fairly auto savvy..he seemed trustworthy to me. He said that theyre deteriorating from normal wear and tear.

they do go bad. they are rubber and sit low to all the heat and road debris.
if you dont feel like attempting this yourself.. if it was me personally i would wait until a noise starts to happen. and then replace the whole shafts
but if you are doing it to save some money, by all means replace the boots.

I just pm'd you haha! I might replace them soon just because. I plan on taking a 1,000 mile road trip this summer. Do you think I should replace the axels while I'm at it? Do you have any guess or estimation for how much it could cost?

everyone does try and upsell some service but the worn part could come from dry rot or road conditions, in northern states or places that lay ice and sand on the roads during snow will see more wear on a CV boot, the constant movement also causes wear since the CV axel is designed to move with the steering knuckle so wear is a valid term to use in this instance and very well could be a valid issue
not everyone is a crook, it's good to look into the shop before allowing them to do any work and it's good to look at what they're telling you is an issue, reputable shops have no problem showing you and educating you about the issues they find with the cars they service
