pseudos and woodlover projects

Thanks to a generous member on here and via another member I was given a scalpel full of spores from the supposed new Psilocybe species dubbed 'pseudo-aztecorum' and Psilocybe subaeruginosa.
The pseudos took about two months to show pins, just like i had read from another grow log. These are from spores made into syringes and inoculated on corn, then spawned to coir/coffee.

these pics are from a four days ago, this species/culture seems to be susceptible to bacteria, ~1/3 mushrooms have blue-black infection spots today, unfortunately before any have fully opened up. I am trying to clone some pins.

I wasn't expecting much from this pseudo jar, fruited after only a month though!

Some azurescens myc surfacing. this was a block of wood chips turned white by the myc but had some trich as well, so i decided to break it into three chunks and bury it in my yard.

Ovoid myc in my yard started from stem-butts in spring 2014, five mushrooms grew this spring but didn't last long due to slugs. Pieces of marsh mallow stalks are visible with mycelium surfacing below.

I've been working with some clones of azurescens from the coast last year. once it gets on wood it is absolutely ferocious!

Azure tube. i like adding a thin layer of new chips at time, the myc chomps through in days.

Psilocybe subaeruginosa mycelium. these were started from spore syringe used to inoculate corn jars then spawned to egg cartons and chips.

very aggressive subaeruginosa mycelium

I took some old stalks from mallow plants in my yard and fed the ovoids in my yard, they ate it so fast i decided to try it sterile in some jars with a little coffee grounds mixed in. This is a subaeruginosa jar, but the azures, ovoids and allenii all eat it happily.

I cloned a few of these ovoids a friend found this year. All the clones i took from this patch grew immediately and appeared clean.

clone of ovoid on smoker chips. not as brilliant white as other species. The myc colonizes agar and grains very quickly but isnt as quick to jump onto wood as the subs and azures, after a few days or so it finally gets hungary and reaches out. The ovoid clone however really likes the mallow stalks and coffee grounds sterilized in jars pictured above, it actually beat the azure, subs and allenii in colonization time.

I have clones of allenii and cyanescens I am cleaning up from old plates. For all my indoor woodlovers i have been feeding them alder/maple/apple smoker chips and/or aspen shavings boiled for a while and left soaking overnight. When expanding myc i like to keep the original culture mostly intact(break it into a few chunks or leave whole) and add a 0.5-1 inch layer of chips at a time, not much contams to worry about this way because the bagged chips are fairly clean and healthy woodlover mycelium colonizes so aggressively.
My still air box is a big reptile tank on its side with cling wrap front. All my agar work and cloning is done here. Works well and is easy to clean.

finally seeing some gills from the pseudos! This is one slow growing species.

still a problem with rot with this tub.

outdoor cubes from old tubs planted a month ago, lots of rain lately and finally some sun today made them balloon up!

azures fruiting! same spot in the yard pictured in first post from mycelium planted this past august. i recently put down grass collected from their homeland. its been in the 30's at night and very rainy/stormy past week here, maybe that with the grass made them feel at home enough to fruit.

about 8 pins altogether, minus one from slugs. beer traps are hopefully more temping to the slugs than mushrooms

a potential allenii fruiting in the yard too, looks a bit lighter then the cyans nearby. from cloned tissue also.

gardening is fun in the PNW!

finally some maturing azurescens from this patch out back. These grow slow, for how fast their myc grows they are in no hurry to mature. The hygrophanous caps made my day, I like that look!
Here are some to show their progression over about ten days

about half of the mushrooms are stunted/contorted, some never elongated there stems and opened the cap against the ground. They're dropping spores so I am happy.
Tubs of cyan myc that was mixed with fresh chips and coir mixture a few months ago were placed outside two weeks ago. I let them fill with rainwater then drained them and placed under a table outside, noticed pins the other day!

Not so new, Psilocybe pseudoaztecorum was published as a new species in 1985. K. Natarajan; N. Raman 1985., A New Species of Psilocybe from India Mycologia, Vol. 77, No. 1. pp. 158- 161

interesting thanks. How come there is so little info online about it though? Has it only been reported from the wild the one time? Only stuff i can find relating to it are grow reports from the past few years.
