I went to priceline.com bought my tix got off the plane went into town and found a hotel that was nice near the action and reasonably priced. They even had a bong on the coffy table for me. Now dont forget to go to the majic shop they are right in the middle of the red light district. AND BE CAREFUL WHO YOU BYE DRUGS OFF FROM alot of people dont like americans so they will sell you "drugs" that could possibly kill you stick to the legal herb and mushrooms. If you bye something off the street make sure your taking what you paid for. And dont harras the prostitutes the pussy patrol will kick your ass no lie. If your wasted the pigs dont care but if you fuck with anyone espeically women they will beat your ass and you will go to jail. (the way it should be)

dont stay in amsterdam...it's too expensive and well overrated. i'd recommend staying in harlem,it's only a 20 minute train ride from amsterdam and a lot cheaper. remember most decent sized dutch towns/cities have coffee/smart shops, amsterdam is not the only place worth visiting.

Good advice hanky.
I've been seriously thinking about moving to Amsterdam if I should ever happen to lose my current job. Your post has influenced me to consider cities near Amsterdam. Harlem, huh? Is it a pretty cool place, or what? Describe it for me if you don't mind. Can an American such as myself keep my American citizenship but work in Harlem?

i dont know what the situation would be with working there,i'm from australia but have been to the netherlands a few times.haarlem(sp wrong in my first post) is on the coast,it's much more laid back than the 'dam' heaps cheaper accomodation meals etc, still has coffeeshops etc,the only thing it lacks is the MEGA tourist influence of the dam. rotterdam is also worth spending time in,it doesn't have the same amount of beautiful old buildings though, since the germans bombed the fuck out of it in WW2.

Here's a map of Holland. Holland is slightly less than twice the size of New Jersey:
click here for a larger map
Some distances and train prices(www.ns.nl): Amsterdam - Utrecht, 40km, 30min, ?5.50 Amsterdam - Haarlem, 20km, 15min, ?3.00 Amsterdam - The Hague(Den Haag), 65km, 50min, ?8.40
IMO Haarlem and Utrecht are good alternatives for Amsterdam. (I live in Utrecht)
Good sites about Haarlem and Utrecht
Both Haarlem and Utrecht have Coffee Shops and Smart Shops.
I wouldn't recommend Rotterdam because it's industrialized(largest harbor in the world) and has no old center(WW II)

I heard that only dutch citizens can smoke in the coffeeshops from this month, can anyone confirm this?
Everyone told me how amsterdam was grotty and you should stash your money down your boxers, but lo and behold when i got there it was a really pretty city with a brilliantly laid back atmosphere.
pfff dont go to holland to buy pills and stuff, im sure that all that stuff is just as good in your country. IMO amsterdam is for smoking weed, munching shrooms and possibly cacti.

currently, Kuwait Airways is offering roundtrip tickets from continental US to Amsterdam for $290US until April. Apparently you stop off in Kuwait then jet out Europe - what a trip who's down?

yeah, lol. Layover in Kuwait City Airport - that's crazy. check out www.travelocity.com and do "search for best fares." From Chicago to Kuwait City to Amsterdam is $290.00 roundtrip - might be different for different originating cities, of course.
I might just have to go back for spring back.

Thanks. Too bad it doesn't show prices though.
Oh well, if I go to Amsterdam, i'm going to actually go to Haarlem or one of those other surrounding cities instead. Sounds like a WAY better idea.

Pills in Holland, especially Ecstasy, are of way better quality and way lower price than in America. If you know your sources you can score pills for ?2 or ?3. Even ?1 if you buy by the 100s. Most drugs in Holland are better and cheaper. That's because with our soft laws drug-dealers etc are in less danger, so they don't have to ask as much money to make it worth their while. If you visit Holland stay in Amsterdam for a few days. Amsterdam is cool but I wouldn't want to live there or visit it for long. It's so crowded and touristy. It has great museums and coffeshops though. Then go to my city, Utrecht. On weekdays the city is really peaceful and quiet. We have a lot of good coffeeshops and I've never got any trouble for smoking in public. Just don't smoke in crowded places. Or drop by my place and experience your drugs in a nice triproom, you pay for my drugs . I could even give you a tour of the city and coffeeshops Holland is so small you can get everywhere in a few hours.
