I want to get back into skateboarding. Thinking about getting an old school deck. Like the 10" decks from the 80's with the wide tails. Anyone here have any recommendations?

Go with a deck that fits your riding style, if you have a inkling for a whale tail than thats probably whats going to work best for you.

Hey man. What's up? How long have you been skating for? I found a board I want to get. It's a santa cruz board & the dimensions are 30x10". Not sure what size trucks to get. Would I get 10" axle trucks since the board is 10" wide? I think those would be considered long board trucks.

3 years. 10" trucks are going to have a wider turning radius and are more geared for high speed stability as apposed to maneuverability. One thing you have to be careful of is wheel bite, the longer the truck the further the travel inboard the wheel can go. This means putting risers on to get more clearance and matching a proper wheel size. Bigger wheels roll faster and are obviously more prone to bite.

Thank you for your replies. I appreciate it man. & I see. So for an old school board that is 10x30 would you recommend getting trucks that are around 8.5" instead of 10"? (Give or take.) I'll get some risers. Sorry for asking so many questions, you can get back to me whenever you can, do risers make a difference on the length of the screws that you need to get to hold the trucks in place? Say, without risers you'd get 1 1/8 inch screws... but with risers would you need more like 1 1/4 inch screws. Have a good day.

Just make sure you RIDE THAT BOARD. Don't let me see you walking and carrying it unless you wanna be thought of as a poseur...

Lol....we used to make skateboards by nailing the trucks from steel wheel rollerskates (that would normally fit over your shoe) to a piece of plywood.....that's pretty old school.
