spikey pin heads?
    #22156324 - 08/28/15 12:05 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

i currently have a wild cow patty that has been giving off nice, small pan cyan fruits for about a week or two now. over the past 2 days or so, i've noticed what looks like a new pin set of a slightly different, off yellow kind've color, and noticed a few very, very small pins poking up off the dung. what is interesting though, is that these pin heads seem to have spikey pin heads (only way i know how to describe it) and look a lot different than the copes when they pin.

research has led me in circles, and i'm having trouble finding an answer. possible suggestions could be a contaminate of some kind, rhizomorphic growth (kinda unsure about this one) but it would be cool to hear if anyone else has heard of or seen this type of thing.

So are you fruiting it outside or did you stick it in a fruiting chamber?

I have not been successful with pans but in pictures the pins tend to have yellow caps.

yes, fruiting it outside in my garden, under a thicket of shrubs/grass. the patty is sitting on a small tupperware top, which has a thin layer of soil for the patty to sit upon.

all the pans that have fruited so far start nearly the same way, with darker brown kinda reddish caps that almost look like cubes, and then they get a bit lighter in color as they grow out, but these particular pins seem to be almost colorless (very very pale/off yellow kinda color) and as mentioned have what looks like completely burst/spiked out pin heads that dont resemble the pan cyan pins at all.

of course i know very little about anything so who knows. here's a pic of some of the fruits, with a normal looking pin (sorry for the shitty quality). im gonna try to let the 'spiked pins' grow out a tiny bit more so hopefully my phone's camera will be able to capture it, but ill try to get a pic as soon as possible

sorry, i guess i should've made it more clear that the pic above doesn't show any of the spikey pins in question. i just wanted to post that pic to illustrate the darker color of the 'normal pins' so i can contrast it to the lighter colored spike pins. im gonna try to get a shot of the blown out looking spiked pin heads as soon as i can, ill keep you guys posted.
