The bottle will work just fine. Why spend the money on a rubbermaid container if you don't have to? Another advantage is that the bottle can more easily be put in an inconspicuous place and if one cake is contaminated, you can easily just throw it out without opening up the container and exposing your other cakes.

will perlite work in the bottom (the poormans chamber calls for a wet paper towel) and if so should i put a wire mesh stand to put the cake on?

Thanks Alot

Yes, perlite will work on the bottom. I think it should work better than a wet paper towel as there are less nutrients and hence less chance of contamination growing on perlite vs. a paper towel. I would also keep the perlite moist with a dilute Hydrogen Peroxide solution as opposed to just water... say at about .15% H2O2 (this is also what I use for misting with no ill effects). I have placed cakes directly on the perlite, I have also used plastic lids from such things as yoghurt containers or Miracle Whip jars to place cakes on as I don't like rust from steel.

My first cake ever was put in a 2 liter plastic bottle with perlite at the bottom. I think I got around 2 or 3 shrooms out of it. Nothing more. I was fanning maybe 2 times a day.

To get better results than I had in the past, make sure to at least dunk your cake 18-22 hours in the fridge and then rolling it in some sterile moist vermiculite . After the dunk and roll, put in the terrarium and initiate light cycle and fanning. This should help a lot.

Now, when you feel getting more serious with this hobby, build a nice and cheap automated terrarium and see you flushes getting at least 3 times better.

.fs.

Sounds good, and I like the verm roll tech as I have tried it and had good success, and if you are on your own and have the extra space for about $50 you could start a setup like this.

Although it's your first time , i suggest u to do the easy casing method . You will have better result , no need of perlite ,and contamination isn't a real problem if u'r clean !

Yes if you notice when you "birth" your cake from the jar it comes out easy normally because it has shrunk, this is due to water loss, dunking before your first flush helps. Known fact!
