Lost a friend

So i lost a friend this year on June 21st, Father's Day. Where do I begin?, this post will be more or less another way that allows me to grieve.
I won't mention real names but I will call my friend Buddy. Buddy was younger than me but at the same time possessed an old soul at times. He had a charisma that seemed to hearken back to an age of innocence- i guess I am self-reflecting now... I think that that is due to the quickness and sort of powerless situation which occurred.
So Buddy, myself, Lisa, and Bart decided to head to a well known lake for a day of recreation. the ride was long but camaraderie was in full effect and good times were being had by all. We had finally arrived and randiness took emergence, as Lisa was a voluptuous female friend that captured all of our hearts. I had decided to swim off into past the fenced in section towards the out of bounds area, mostly to see if I could do it. When you gain weight after formerly being a fit person, you sought of feel like a former shell of what you once were; so you constantly challenge yourself to see if "you still got it".
I'm referring to those floating pipes that help keep people enclosed in more maneuverable waters. I had swim to and back but noticed that being out of shape had me breathing rapidly- I would most likely not venture off that far again. About a two hours of swimming, me and another decided to grab our beer for all of our friends. Everyone had a beer, but Buddy had chugged his beer and drank half of the Lisa's beer.
At some point Buddy and Lisa swam out to the out of bounds area that I had successfully swam hours prior. I would assume that Lisa had coerced him to do it, if not by words then looks and charms herself. But perhaps that is unfair. Love is a fickle thing and man is responsible for his own actions. I was asked to try it as well, and i had made a point to state that you would be fighting the tide on the way back to shore. I believe that Buddy had reached the pipes of the area first followed by Lisa and myself. After less than five minutes I had had enough of trying to stay afloat by the pipes and started to head back. Lisa followed suit and then Buddy. I should add that Bart was swimming in the enclosed section as he could not swim in deep waters.
Out of nowhere i heard a cry for help, it was Buddy. Later i would found out that Lisa said he had a cramp. Now from my position in the water I was about 50 meters from shore and 20 meters from Buddy. Lisa was closer but still a good 10 meters. Buddy was going under and we needed to get him to shore, about 70 meters from Buddy's position in the water. I circled back and finally got to him, closing the gap between us, was no easy feat. This was due to increasing exhaustion from swimming all day, combined with the moving water/tide. We got him and he was not speaking at all at this point, i literally saw him going up and down in the water like a buoy. My thought was to get him to the inner pipe which enclosed the waters closer to the shoreline. But still and 50 meters to go. We of course are yelling but trying to get him there, and the whole time I am noticing that Buddy is not talking whatsoever, too much water had been swallowed
Bart had grabbed a safety tube at this point but since he couldn't swim those deeper waters, he had thrown the tube as close as he could. At this point we are close and others from the shore are helping us get to the shore. I start CPR and I am quickly relieved by the Park Ranger. Breathes and pressure for Buddy are giving, aid is called. Mere minutes seem longer. another 40 minutes, and the realization that your friend is gone is confirmed. Buddy had passed.
I guess my advice is to cherish the moments we have with our friends and family members. Learn life-saving techniques and better swimming skills. Buddy would have loved this site, i never told him about it. He was so much more than the good times we shared. Anyways this was mostly for me, thanks for reading. If there is a heaven, I believe Buddy is there. I just knew him for a short time but it seemed like a lifetime...
