Hello Hello,
I have been hunting & tripping on these for years, also been trying to cultivate these guys for a number of years with not much success til now. Using a few different ideas from other cultivators in the forums I have been able to get the mycelium growing quite well, sadly no shrooms yet - as half of my experiment is out doors the weather has just tipped into spring and I doubt the temperatures are going to be low enough (unless I keep watering & get lucky!), most likely I will have to wait til next winter to see if any shrooms produce. But anyways here is the teq I have been using personally + photos.
So years ago I tried the 'spore slurry' teq and threw all that over rotting wood - no success and I gave up starting from spores ages ago...
Back in June of this year I started going on regular hunts for specifically mycelium & over many expeditions into the hills I found a lot. I found inch size balls of mycelium, half rotted peices of wood encased with mycelium and also I used the bottom bits of the shrooms as they had mycelium connect to them. All in all I think I collected about a standard ice cream tub of wild grown mycelium...
From guidance in the forums I decided to make up a medium size garden container, first I got fresh standard potting mix, layers it up to 3 quarters full, then I planted as many native plants that I noticed growing around the wild shrooms - ie native grasses etc. Then I stuffed in a decent layer of pine needles collected from where the shrooms came from & also put in some pine cones from under the tree with the shrooms, layering it in further, finally I scattered some pine bark from bunnings over all, between the plants etc. Finally I buried in half the ice cream container full of mycelium & stem buts. Basically I left it all to grow, making sure it doesnt dry out... So thats been up and running for a few months now... check out the mycelium growth already...

And here is a photo of the entire container so ya get an idea of what it all looks like..

And my second experiment was in a small clear container with rotten bark, pine shavings & mycelium encased twigs, buts & 1 complete ball of mycelium. This one is a sweet little supriser as once I realized mycelium enjoys a slightly warmer environment to grow in, and put the container in a place that I know has a standard of about 20 C degrees - the mycelium started to grow a lot faster than when it sat in a cooler place. check it out so far...

Im so proud of this one cos Im pretty sure this developed in 48 hrs..

So yeah.. thats how I am attempting to grow these babies. Lucky patience is a virtue I have and I am happy to wait a year or more to see if next winter they may fruit with all the current mycelium activity. Alternatively I was considering chucking the indoor container in the fridge, keeping it moist to see if anything fruits, dunno though, has anyone else tried that with this type of shroom??
Ps - something Ive noticed, if I check the mycelium growth too much in the out door container like picking up pine cones and seeing the growth under it, the mycelium seems to die of fast - either it doesnt like the direct light or air flow over it, not sure, I dont touch it any more (only to take a few photos), just let it do its thing underground.
Finally these are some photos of the shrooms that I harvested with heaps of mycelium growing under dense pine needles..

Peace.

Experiments are unpredictible. I have plenty of evidence that PS can grow in out door set ups, ive seen it work with my own eyes, my friend did something similar, only difference is he told me to use liquid fertaliser on the out door grow, i was like seriously? Didnt think shrooms would handle the fertalizer too well so thats the one thing i havent tried yet.
Other than that I credit most of my knowledge to a person in the forum called 'olive' who has sucessfully cultivated PS in WA... Using similar methods, fingers crossed by next yr might have something to really show all of you
