This is a real nice story about a dog that's retiring after six years but in it says that he's found shrooms I had no idea they could be found out way but I guess being a smell it can be trained
Be nice to train a dog to find the wild ones ha ha

While they could train a police dog to check for shrooms, it's probably really uncommon. I'm pretty sure it's like 15,000 dollars per each scent they're taught to find. And there just isn't enough mushroom busts to have a reasoning for doing it.
But it's be so cool to have a dog that helps you hunt actives!

I'd find it hard to believe they train a dog for mushrooms were are a really underground part of society and mushrooms grow everywhere so would be incredibly hard to train the difference between cubes cyans, buttons, oysters etc but then again anything is possile

Even I can tell the difference between oysters smell and cubes smell. But it would be a huge waste. Plus they would probably only train them to smell out cubes.

Why waste money training dogs when they just falsely alert the dog anyway.

No. They can't train them too. Dogs cannot differentiate the smell of psychedelic mushrooms from many other non-active fungi. I was told this by an old head deep into shrooms, and I believe it fully.

I don't think that's true. While not being able to find specifically psychedelic fungi, they can most likely be trained to smell out cubensis(the most common psychedelic mushroom sold). Dogs have much better smell than humans, so if I candifferentiate the smell of cubes from oysters or reishi, a dog would be able to as well.

Well I've never smelled oysters or reishi. I do remember smelling some kind of nasty stuff though (i forgot where, but it wasn't a mushroom, just some funky fungus), and it smelled just like some cubes. I noticed it because I was like hmm this smells like some shrooms. I mean even dirty socks smell a little bit like it, but not quite. I know dogs have killer senses of smell, but do you forsure believe that there are not other bacteria/fungi that smell exactly the same? Even if some mushrooms smell different?

See I know this, but I still believe my old head buddy. He's really smart and not a bser. Can a dog tell the difference between hamburger and chopped steak? What my buddy was trying to say, is that mushrooms have the exact same smell as some other common fungus. So if you trained a dog to alert on them, they would falsely alert on a bunch of different fungi. I'm down to hear the other side some more though, because it'd be nice to see some facts.

But you can differentiate dirty socks from mushrooms, right? So can a dog. You know that shrooms have a particular smell. I can smell the presence of mushrooms and so can a dog. It doesn't matter if they smell like some other fungus or bacteria if they're specifically looking for drugs in your car, you know?
That's very unlikely to happen, though. Not something you should worry about. It's a non issue.
