Fall for PNW

Ok so I had a feeling my last post was going to be closed but let's see if I can word this better. I just want people's thoughts on fungi being able to thrive after a long summer drought. Yes, I suppose I am talking about weather but I really am very curious to know if the mycelium will stay healthy after high heat and little moisture. I really can't imagine why this kind of discussion wouldn't be allowed here. I used to use this site almost a decade ago and don't recall such strict restrictions about discussing the weather....because after all, the weather is part and parcel of hunting. I know there will be fruits either way once Fall starts to become more apparent. So if somebody has seen a summer drought and then picked in the Fall I would be very interested to hear about their experience.

well on the coast up where i am, i think all the fog and ocean mist keeps the ground semi moist year round. so that probably helps.

Because people like you will talk about the weather non-stop and mushrooms become almost an afterthought. Post after post of "is gud 2 pick skroomz now? it jus rained half an inch." "anybody find shrooms?" "iz it raining in your neighborhood too???"
If you you want to comment on the weather, visit ones of these sites:
http://www.talkweather.com/forums/index.php
http://www.weather.com/
Otherwise, most of us here don't care or want to read about others complaining or speculating about how the weather in their corner of the earth is. It gets to be too much. Why can't you just follow the rules?

Dude I know when it will be time to pick mushrooms. Take a look at my Stuntzi pics. I am not a total noob at this. I really don't understand why you have such a bad attitude on a site that promotes understanding.
Putting that aside, I am not asking if it is "tiem tew pik mushrewms" I am asking if anybody thinks the summer drought might effect the fall's fruits.

no. they have evolved over the last 320 million years to handle that issue.

Also....say you had a long day without much water and high heat, would you be doing better if you were well hydrated or not? Humans have evolved over many years as well. That doesn't mean there aren't variables that can effect us. Just like there are variables that can effect mushrooms. If you lived in western Washington you would know that we basically had one of the driest Summers in recent memory. But whatever, be an arrogant asshole.

you're reading wayyyyyyy too much into my post, chappy.
i'm sure summer wx will affect fall fruiting in some immeasurable way, but fungi have evolved to be resilient. when conditions are right during the correct season they will reproduce.
you'd have to measure the total mass of fruiting bodies over very large areas to determine what quantitative effect the prior season's wx has on the following season's fruiting...unless you're talking about a very small plot in which case you have the issue of way too small of a sample size to make a meaningful conclusion.

I think that dry temperatures seem to make wood-loving mushrooms grow better, I think maybe it makes the wood easier from the mushroom mycelium to consume. Don't fret my PNW comrade, the mushrooms are coming. These mushrooms have been around for millions of years and things have been far worse and yet the are still around.

Ah thank you. That is the post I was looking for. Much appreciated. I haven't lived over on the west side of the state for a long time and consequently haven't picked here in a long time either. I saw how incredibly dry and hot this summer was and was a little concerned. Thanks for your input.

Sorry....I guess I am just a little bit too used to the Youtube type attitude where everybody is super disrespectful and arrogant and as a result thought you were being malicious. Haha. I just got frustrated because I already asked this question once and the thread got closed and then I made another one and the moderator was disrespectful. Perhaps it is a dumb question but I appreciate your answer nonetheless.
Everybody over here has been talking about global warming....that is how dry and hot it has been. So I wasn't sure if our little friends were going to be having a tough time or not.

California has been in a serious drought for a while now, I still find lots of mushrooms in the fall/winter.

I actually wondered this as well. Our drought over here is kind of record-breaking, and while "mushrooms have survived millions of years" and may survive a drought, that doesn't mean they will *fruit* during that drought. I also don't understand why discussing the weather, when pertaining to hunting conditions, isn't permitted. I'm new here, so did a bunch of asses ruin it for everyone or something? Why not just have a Weather section? It's a pretty big fucking factor in hunting.

I remember making an account here in around 2006 or 2007. There was constantly talk of weather. I was never bothered by it, but I guess some people were and decided to make rules against it. But whatever, from what I have heard here, the drought won't affect the growth of mushrooms as long as the conditions are right during the fall.
Also I was reading about Psilocybe Semilanceata and apparently the fungus creates some sort of growth in the ground that makes it incredibly resilient. Even against wildfires. Stuntzii and liberty caps seem to come the soonest so I am going to be checking my patches if weather starts to change.
