Not in my opinion... It's probably good stuff, but you could easily achieve the same results or better with straw or dung at a fraction of the cost.

yes but alas, the concrete jungles of some of our urban cities do not allow for such easy access to straw or dung. or even if there was straw or dung within driving distance, the impracticalities of owning a car in such an urban center make the drive impossible.

heres a question. What about buying commercial mushroom compost, like at a landscape supply company? It is MUCH cheaper and the only drawback that I can think of is that its not pasteurized. There are local stores in most states that it can be purchased at low costs. Is there some reason that this couldn't be used?

mushroom compost sold at landscape stores has already been used to grow mushrooms so the nutrients are already depleted from it.

ok, well isnt there "phase II" compost that can be purchased from other vendors. I was reading about it on mushroomcouncil.org's website. A lot of commercial growers grow this was exclusively for obvious reasons, and I bet they don't pay 3.50/lb. Just a thought.

Personally the best stuff i've found is what comes out of a horses ass dry it good on a big tarp in the sun and it will outperform anything you'll find in a store
