The eating on a budget thread

This seems to come up at least bi-annually, and I haven't seen it discussed in some time so I figured I'd open it up again. Offer budget eating advice for the college student and the young and broke.
I myself am on a tight food budget this year. Something like $80 every two weeks is where I'm at.
foods I suggest/will live off: - peanut butter and jelly - rice & bread - grilled chicken, eggs, and (sparsely) fish for protein. - tortilla chips, tortilla wraps, and salsa - lettuce/salad mix - apples and bananas
Feel free to add on as well as offer general suggestions for budget living.

I made a thread like this awhile ago and got decent results for me a costco membership was the trick. went from spending $1600 a month (yeah wtf) on groceries to under $400 - for two people.
if you wanna go like dirt fuckin cheap, you can buy dried rice and dried beans and if you were inclined eat those every day for like $10 a month each. many ways to get creative with this of course.
also if you cant afford good healthy food, or at least some, and you own a cellphone... get rid of it? get rid of cable TV. re-finance your car. find ways to save $ - i guarantee you can find many.

if you toss the 'flavor' pack and add in vegetables they are not too bad for ya, and a definitive way to eat cheap.

fresh, uncut vegetables like onions, cales and leeks are very cheap also. you can boil them or bake them in soy sauce or something. Again, very cheap, but also very healthy. Some vegetable mix, soy sauce and brown rice have been a staple diet for me when I was dirt poor.

I've never really been dirt poor but did realize I spent way too much damn $ on groceries , like over $1500 a month for over a year (2 of us).
one time I was buying kale and I asked a guy who I thought worked there if he'd seen the kale and his reply (total stranger) "Kale? Isn't that what faggots eat?" and I was like uhh. maybe? fucking people say some stupid shit.

Making a simple chicken-chili is delicious.
Two chicken breasts, three cans chunky tomato sauce, a can of beans, a fresh habenero or two, some onion, and maybe a $1 flavor pack will provide lunch or dinner for a few days. Realistically, that's probably 3-4 meals for like $6. Hearty 'n farty.

Holy fucking shit man. That guys is obviously a lunatic. Fuck male macho culture bullshit, us Dutch folks have been eating cale for centuries, and now suddenly some douchebag retard thinks it is food for men who enjoy other men?
Sheer insanity.
Also: it's food! It's fucking food! That thing you need to live? What, that guy only eats fried chicken and hamburgers and hotdogs and shit or something? That's just kid stuff man!
Here, doesn't this shit look like the tastiest shit of all time?

THAT is motherucking kale! Boerenkool jonguh! Mashed togeter with potatoes and little bacon bits, served with dark gravy and a smoked saucage. This shit is a real superfood, full of powah and calories and vitamins and shit.
No. Nooo. I can not accept that somebody is so moronic to call kale a gay food. Where was this?

like I said earlier too - everything in this thread can be bought in bulk for stupid cheap from Costco, and never goes bad if stored properly (except vegetables really).

snacks are hard right now my favorite is english muffin, toasted, with coconut oil and organic jelly spread (not jam) on top. healthy and cheap. also, banana's - nuts, olives, sliced ham, cheese. I usually do a plate with all of that at once for lunch.

My typical food routine as of late:
Start off with some watermelon and goji berries in my tea.
Juice a couple of oranges, or bake a sweet yam.
Juice a couple of lemons, or eat a couple bananas.
Then I eat a wrap with romaine lettuce, celery, avocado and cilantro.
You can get some blueberries for blue or plums.
For purple I eat dragon fruit or boil some purple potatoes.
Boom, you've just eaten every color of the spectrum!
All on a 200$ or less a month!

I've found out that the more you learn to make from base ingredients, the more you can save over a long period of time.
Little by little I got a collection of spices, cheap from the Mexican section of my store, now I can make curry out of everything. Little by little got a collection of flours and baking powders together.
Baking your own bread saves you tons of cash too. I'm baking a sourdough bread tonight, and will have a white-bread ready to bake in an hour or so.
Dry beans save you money but are a hassle. I usually get canned beans for $0.50 and a big ol bag of whole grain rice for $5. The rice will last me way over a month because each cup of dry rice = 3 cups cooked. I can use that to make 3 meals of rice and beans. You get yourself some Lizano sauce and figure out your seasonings, it's a super tasty meal
My groceries run me about $60-$100 per month. Sometimes all I need to buy is $0.45 yogurt cups for breakfast, potatoes, or onions

I this!
More raw foods contain higher nutrition.
The more you eat, the more you learn your tastes.
Dry beans are worth it, just soak em over night.
Avoid anything from a can, if you.... can.

Oh and it's best to invest in your food IMHO.
You're worth it, and your physical body is the most important thing you own/have on this plain.... IMHO.
Food is relatively cheap if you cut out the junk and put in your favorite raw foods.
Once you find your way into eating healthy, you'll eat less and have more energy due to being fulling nourished while processing less.

When you are going on an impaired food choices diet (such as for dieting or for budget) make sure to pick up THESE.
At a price of $5-$10 a month you prevent almost all deficiencies and actually are better off than most people who eat regular food.

I have some of those source naturals mineral supplements.
I take mineral supplements because I drink RO water which is know to leech minerals out of your system due to it's acidity. (it's clean water, but stripped of it's minerals so it's acidic)

You should mostly just eat a ton of vegetables and beans. Things like rice n beans stirfrys borritos chilli stews soups. Grilled cheese is always cheap blt's n chicken clubs n this. Hell jus make bunch spicy deviled ham and pickle sandwiches if your looking for cheap sandwich. theres like a million things you could cook thats like a shit ton of food n not alot of money. buy whatevers on sale.

spaghetti with meatsauce is cheap and gives you plenty of protien/carbs
I used to get ground chuck at walmart for $3/lb, I'd cook 2.5lb at a time and mix it with cheap marinara sauce and some garlic and diced onion. Bacon and eggs on toast and tacos as well. I used to live off those three and chocolate milk and spent less than 150 a month.

Bread may fill you up, but there's practically no nutrition in it.
It's basically white paste cooked.
You're body processes it, aging you faster without any benefits or nourishment.
This is how I look at some foods meow.

Money has been super tight over the past year for me since I haven't had steady work, so I get this. I ate cheap food from Winn Dixie and gained so much weight. My work wife pointed me to Trader Joe's and it saved my waistline. I spend about $45-$60 every two weeks or so and get enough food to feed me (a single person).
I like lentils because they're easy to cook and they're pretty cheap. Polenta is another cheap alternative if you make it yourself.

Why even cook it? Just chow down on it like a big, noodly cracker.

find a fishing pole and a decent spot to fish.
a few hours a week fishing could provide plenty of meals at minimal cost.

Didn't read the thread, but I was a pro at living on a cheap ass diet for a while.
This is what I ate: Rice Black Beans Lentils Split Peas Potatoes Onions Eggs Olive Oil Occasional Chicken (save the bones for broth) Spices for seasoning

I used to do that all the time as a young stoner in highschool.. It was a staple of my diet in my earlier days
Throw a little bit of seasoning in the package and crush it up.. just a ghetto trash party mix

I buy frozen veggies from time to time, those are cheap.
What means cheap though, like how much does your average shroomerite spend per meal? What is a good price range to be spending per meal to be considered cheap?
Oh yeah, I find it saves money to stock up on certain things like pasta, beans, peanut butter, potatoes, those things seem to last a while.
