Best tek for Shiitake mushrooms

I just ordered a syringe of Shiitake from a vendor and was wondering the best tek to try and grow some.
Since I already have 1/2pint jars and quart jars, I'd rather use those. I read that you can grow it with BRF (just substitute verm for sawdust/wood chips?) and I'm not sure about what changes to make to the WBS tek.
Which do you think would be more effective? BRF 1/2pt jars or WBS quart jars? & what changes should I make to improve yield with shiitake?
Would it be better to just place the cakes into a SGFC? or do a Coir/Verm/Wood chips mix (wbs/quart jars)?
Thanks everyone in advance!

As far as whether to use BRF or birdseed, I personally dont think there would be a huge difference. I do, however, think it would be a good idea to at least add sawdust to your recipe. It seems Shiitake will produce mutant fruitbodies in the absence of wood.
An even better growing strategy would be to make up your spawn(WBS or BRF) and then pasteurize hydrated sawdust in large filter-patch bags to be used as a bulk substrate. You could keep it small and simple with PF-style cakes but I always figure it's not that hard to expand your mycelial mass once you have colonized jars.
For fruiting cakes, an SGFC would work just fine. I have also fruited 2 blocks at once in an SGFC and it seemed to work out alright. If you have the resources, building a small growroom with poly and using a humidifier plus some method of FAE would obviously be the more optimal fruiting method. SGFC's do the job for me since I live in a 1 bedroom apartment.

There is a thread or maybe a tek or growlog posted somewhere on Shroomery that describes a BRF shitake grow. The grower found that adding the element of wood to his BRF formula was not effective in increasing his yield. Basic BRF did the trick all by itself. I will see if I can dig that thread up.

I couldn't find the post I was looking for but here is something from a post written by a guy, Bluecat, that might be useful: since you spelled it "shitaki", i know which post it was. that spelling was an accident. the shitake in that post were grown on normal pf cakes.i use plug spawn. one plug right down the center. the one tip to use is patience.if you leave them exposed to normal room light, and normal room temps, leave them in the jar until you see a lot of brown.they will grow a lot of bumps and blobs. don't mistake them for pins. before birthing, open the jar, fill it with water, and refridgerate for 1-2 days. then birth, and put into grow chamber.normal cakes will give 3 flushes. after a flush, let the cakes sit for a few days, then soak in the fridge for 1-2 days.have fun.

Thanks for the responses guys! I think I'm going to go with BRF cakes with sawdust.
I also got a free syringe from spore works, Elm Oyster! Gotta do some more research on this bugger.
I'll keep you all updated. =D

Update:
BRF cakes with wood chips (I think I put one or two) were successful; however, mixed with a bit of sawdust -- no growth. I only did a few ccs and saved the rest for WBS and they are growing well!
I only have a couple cakes so I'm deciding whether to just use them as cakes or a mini monotub.
