with straw only tubs, it really helps to case IME. i lay it on top right at spawning to help hold the straw down. i like it thick, maybe 1/2" or so. u can bucket a brick, keep leftovers, or sterilize them, whatever u feel ok with.
no need to case with more, or after the fact with peat later. although, u can use more coir to patch if it looks like ur spread is going to be uneven.

Looks amazing in my opinion straw always tends to give out meaty mushrooms!

blindingleaf, I assume you mean bucket a brick of coir? as in bucket tek? Do you use verm with that such as 50/50+ casing mix?
Over all, progress has really picked up speed since I added more polyfill. New pins popping up like crazy! Thanks again for checking in guys...

yea, just standard bucket TEK. 1 brick, 2 qts verm, couple tablespoons gypsum. 4.5-5qts water depending on how fine/coarse ur verm is.
u can skip the verm, but i usually add it cause ill use the leftovers for something else (more casing, bags, mini monos, etc, it stores well in bucket)

Yea bro listen to leaf on this one it's the easiest way to process substrate/casing i exclusively use the bucket for coir/verm/gypsum if you want to pasteurize anything else check out mudas proper bucket pasteurization tek i find it interesting that you went straight to straw and skipped CVG which is we're most ppl start good job bro sometimes ill bucket theCVG and pasteurize the additives (poo hydrated straw castings coffee.....whatever really) in half gallon jars in my PC RR style and I have had very good luck with that although I'm not sure what the community thinks of that method i think you will love coir when you give it a try that's how i do 75% of my tubs straight CVG cause it's so damn easy anyways amazing job bro keep it up

Harvest of the GT tub first flush is ongoing. I am trying to time it with the breaking of the veils.

I think the changing environment of these tubs cause the first flush to be uneven. First it was too dry, then there was enough humidity to get the job done, so lots more pins now. And the Ecuador and Hawaiian tubs are pinning more now too. They had a deeper substrate depth than the GT and I assume they just needed to colonize/consolidate a little longer.
To other newbies out there: consider the climate you live in when designing your tubs. I put a lot of quarter sized holes in my tubs and not a lot of polyfill. Won't be making that mistake again now that I see how happy they are with more moisture.
I was surprised to see that the bluing of the myc I showed in previous pictures is completely gone! I thought it was gonna be permanent but the mycelium healed itself... It's a christmas miracle.
More updates as this and the other tubs develop.

More pics of the harvest:

I took some spore prints of each strain:

More pins in Hawaii:

The sprout in Ecuador has a lot of pins around it... Is that a coincidence? Or is it giving off oxygen that is encouraging pinning? What do you all think?

Also, what do you guys think this brown color is? Metabolites?

FYI it smells fine in all of these tubs... Nice and clean and mushroomy.

Damn, looks like the MS Gods shit on you.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

I think it is metabolites, not sure though, but they tend to produce metabolites when they are fighting contams, i guess the contam is inside the sub, buts its ok since its no where near the fruits..
