It had everything up to date, then tried to update optional stuff through Windows Updater, it stopped responding at 6 of 8 updates. Gonna restart and try again.

Try checking your hard drive for issues with the manufacture's drive fitness test or drive diagnostics, it could be starting to fail. If it passes that test then run the system file check to look for corrupted system files ( applies to Windows o/s).

Windows Memory Diagnostics
then
checked hard drive for errors. It did a scan thingy after restarting.

Some odd stuff has been happening with media player on my end too. Either it will just start repeating or the volume will just stay down. I restart my computer to fix it temporarily. Could also be too many cache files so i think ill use ccleaner to see if it helps. Last thing would be re install the program itself.

good to do memory test, tho usually bad memory gives a blue screen of death. the scan thingy sounds like Windows scanned the file system for errors, also good to do. A system file check (sfc) will check and correct (sometimes)Windows' system files. A hard drive scan (using, say, Western Digital LifeGuard Diagnostics) checks the hard drive operation and disk surface for problems.

My IP has been blacklisted for spam. I had issues with connection malfunctioning for a week. Basically I'm trying to scan for malware so my PC would get rid of it and I can get off the blacklist.
IP Address XXX is listed in the CBL. It shows signs of being infected with a spam sending trojan, malicious link or some other form of botnet.
It was last detected at 2015-09-04 14:00 GMT (+/- 30 minutes), approximately 5 hours, 30 minutes ago.
This IP is infected (or NATting for a computer that is infected) with the Conficker botnet.
More information about Conficker can be obtained from Wikipedia
Please follow these instructions. Dshield has a diary item containing many third party resources, especially removal tools such as Norton Power Eraser, Stinger, MSRT etc.
One of the most critical items is to make sure that all of your computers have the MS08-067 patch installed. But even with the patch installed, machines can get reinfected.
There are several ways to identify Conficker infections remotely. For a fairly complete approach, see Sophos.
If you have full firewall logs turned on at the time of detection, this may be sufficient to find the infection on a NAT:
Your IP was observed making connections to TCP/IP IP address 104.244.14.252 (a conficker sinkhole) with a destination port 80, source port (for this detection) of 2057 at exactly 2015-09-04 14:26:37 (UTC). All of our detection systems use NTP for time synchronization, so the timestamp should be accurate within one second.
If you don't have full firewall logging, perhaps you can set up a firewall block/log of all access (any port) to IP address 104.244.14.252 and keep watch for hits.
WARNING: DO NOT simply block access to 104.244.14.252 and expect to not get listed again. There are many conficker sinkholes - some move around and even we don't know where they all are. Blocking access to just one sinkhole does not mean that you have blocked all sinkholes, so relistings are possible. You have to monitor your firewall logs, identify the infected machine, and repair them if you wish to remain delisted.
Recent versions of NMap can detect Conficker, but it's not 100% reliable at finding every infection. Nmap is available for Linux, xxxBSD, Windows and Mac. Nessus can also find Conficker infections remotely. Several other scanners are available here.
Enigma Software's scanner is apparently good at finding Conficker A.
University of Bonn has a number of scan/removal tools.
If you're unable to find the infection, consider:
If you used a network scanner, make sure that the network specification you used to check your network was right, and you understand how to interpret a conficker detection. Some network conficker scanners only detect some varieties of conficker. For example, nmap misses some. If you can't find it with nmap, try other scanners like McAfee's. In other words, try at least two. Are you sure you have found _all_ computers in your network? Sometimes there are machines quietly sitting in back rooms somewhere that got forgotten about. It would be a good idea to run nmap -sP <ALL of your network specifications> which should list all your computers, printers and other network devices. Did you see all the computers you expected to see? The infected computer may be turned off at the time you ran the scan or not on the network. Double-check everything was turned on during the scan. If you have wireless, make sure it's secured with WPA or WPA2, and that "strangers" can't connect. WEP security is NOT good enough. Many versions of Conficker propagate via infected thumbdrives/USB keys. When an infected machine is found, ALL such devices associated with the machine should be considered suspect, and either destroyed or completely reformatted. Conficker also propagates by file and printer shares. If you simply remove the listing without ensuring that the infection is removed (or the NAT secured), it will probably relist again.

I find a lot of times its actually easier to just completely wipe my drive and reinstall windows, then it is to try to dig out an entrenched virus or worm. However I also sort of treat my PC like the data on it is never safe, so I dont keep stuff stored on it I would be devestated if I lost. It makes it easier to be able to do that format and fresh install if something does happen.
Especially since if you are infected with something, and you try to save files off y our drive before you do the reinstall, say maybe important documents or your movie colleciton, there is a chance the virus/trojan has spread and infected some of those files, so a reinstall only works until the first time you run/open/view one of those infected files.

Is your PC a big name brand one like HP or Toshiba or something? If it is, and it didn't come with an actual windows 7 dvd then it probably has a recovery partition built into it, meaning when you boot it up you can choose to boot the recovery partition (drive) and use the built in tools to do a system wipe and recovery. Thats how a lot of the big name companies do their systems now instead of sending out actual OS disks.
If thats the case, then the easiest way would probably be to google reinstalling windows on your model of PC. I'm sure there are more then a few websites and guides with full step by step instructions and explanations on how to do it. As for formatting, in my opinion I would if you think its an infection, because it just is simplier and gives more peace of mind that you got rid of whatever it is and not have to worry about the chances that it replicated itself inside some dummy file somewhere that scans are missing.

Also, if you signed up for the free windows 10 upgrade, and were approved for it, I believe you can download the windows 10 files and install it to a USB stick and boot from that to install 10 instead of 7

Its a refurbished HP. Its offered me to upgrade to W10 but I've declined so far. IDK if W10 is "better" than W7, but perhaps I now may have to go 10.

Went W10, PC doesnt crash any more. WiFi randomly comes and goes, all drivers are updated and reinstalled my wifi stick (tp-link). I think I may have a worm that spams so my ip has been blacklisted and no antivirus software found a thing thats wrong.
