Sometimes I think we're already in hell, and that what comes next, if one lives ones life here the best they can, is freedom from hell.

Maybe hell, after this life ends, is simply coming back here for another round?

Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

You may be right.  But then again, if you look in the right places, this is one amazing planet with a lot of absolutely gorgeous women.

There's the kicker.

LOL. For me, the fact that this planet is so full of 'gorgeous women', and the fact that I can't have my way with every one that I lay eyes on is a part of what creates my own personal hell here. Even the gorgeous women that I do have my way with tend to add a significant doses of pain to my life, which I then compound as my mind creates further suffering regarding their, and my, actions.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it's all shit - I have seen and experienced absolute wonders in my time here, as well as absolute horrors. But regardless of whichever way you paint it, it is my opinion that life is a hard struggle for every single one of us. Even those that have grown spiritually to a point which some might refer to as 'enlightenment' seem to know full well that pain and suffering and absolutely inescapable, and, in fact, are entirely necessary.

But really, can anyone with at least a partially open mind look upon this world and in any way see it as some sort of paradise? Methinks not...

Financial independence helps ... control over career and work life helps ... a good education and ability to appreciate the arts helps ... good health helps ... a clear mind and spiritual orientation helps ... taking time to get out into nature every day helps ... good friends help ...

It's not just one thing ... if you get a lot of those factors going, especially health and a clear mind, the hell on earth factor goes way down.

But, I get your point ... there's a shitload of suffering on this planet.

I completely agree. However the past year of my life has shown me loud and clear that all of these things can disappear in a flash. Whilst I completely agree that such things should be rigorously pursued in this life, being fully cognisant of the impermanence of such things is perhaps even more important than having said things.

For the most part, in America, we have a pretty high degree of control over our life habits.  Or I should say we CAN if we CHOOSE have that degree of control and consistency.  It is possible to have great impact on our health, clarity and stillness of mind, physical fitness even without much money.  We can develop friends as well.

Most problems stem from the problems of unrealistic expectations or when expectations don't meet reality ...

Having said that, life is fragile and health can change quickly ...

Isn't the big bang theory the scientific equivalent of "let there be light?"

We've come all this way and our best theory (most widely accepted?) is that this Universe literally exploded into  existence out of nothing some 14 billion years ago? Maybe I am missing something.

As for death, I think it's probably the greatest experience ever. Just the idea that all your thoughts will cease makes it seem pretty cool. No worries, no fears, no anxiety, no sadness, no anger, no pain , just peace. If that doesn't sound great I don't know what does.

Life is pain. Life is hard. I imagine death is quite literally the opposite. I think 50 Cent sums it up quite nicely, "deaths gotta be easy, cause life is hard."

--------------------
(¯`'·.¸(♥)¸.·'´¯) But suddenly you're ripped into being alive. And life is pain, and life is suffering, and life is horror, but my god you are alive and it is spectacular!
