The impossibility of unattached observation
    #2213744 - 01/01/04 06:38 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

Music always evokes strong memories in me.
The effect is immediate and often persists after
the music is over. If find it impossible to
detach hearing the music from the memories.
I often observe my reactions to the music, but
this doesn't lessen them in any extent.
What do fellow meditators think ?

Using music to evoke a re-experience of the past is a hallmark of certain conceptualist personality types! I almost always choose music that will bring a sense of time to my memories.

But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

um, I guess I wasn't clear in my post.
I'm wondering if there's a way to detach the
music from the associations/memories ?
I mean experience just the music for what it is...

Associate a new memory with it? I've done it, but I'm not going to give an example.

But Trendal, I am like you. I always listen to new music. I listen to alternative, jazz, and sometimes rock. But sometimes I will put on "classic rock" and listen to what I grew up with in high school, or sometimes the alternative station in my town plays stuff from the 80's. It evokes memories of whatever I was doing at the time, always.

your mind does this "naturally."

Any profound memories will retain visual and sonic data so when the same sight or sound is unleashed upon you it can trigger these memories.

I think this is a hardware issue.. Its like that for me as well - If it bugs you, I'd say contact your Manufacturer  hehe

peace man

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.
