I'm 61 yrs old & have never heard anyone come close to the things Jimi could do with his guitar. Sure, there's been some excellent guitarists since he made (& left) the scene...but nobody has had the impact he did. No computer-enhanced sound, no help from electronics, no special equipment...nothing but him & his guitar. Plus he was here for such a short period of time, yet left an everlasting impact on the music world. Major props to the best guitarist that ever lived...& that ever will live.
As many critics have said Hendrix is the only guitar player who ever looked like he was completely at home and playing effortlessly while playing - true alien like Bill Hicks would say. My (2nd) favorite guitarist behind Jerry Garcia - though I'd say Hendrix was by definition THE BEST.

I wouldn't really call it "special equipment" but he definitely had "help" from electronics so to speak. He pioneered the wah pedal and distortion pretty hardcore.
Electric guitar is all about that diversity though and ability to alter your sound with various effects. He was definitely utilizing electronics though.
Jeez, I think you knew what I meant. You don't have to dissect every word like a fuckin frog.

Yeah I forgot about the fuzz too, man I love fuzz
I know what you mean, he is a very raw and amazing guitarist.
I just love effects and wanted to point out he definitely pioneered a lot of electrical effects n stuff which helped forge his unique sound.

I really feel bad for you youngsters. You missed the most amazing era of music. Go ask your grandparents, as your folks are probably too young to remember the 1960s & 1970s. We'd go into the city & see bands like The Who, Jethro Tull, Mountain (Mississippi Queen)...& the most expensive seats were $6.50, then $5.50, $4.50 & the shittiest seats were $3.50. Weed was $15/lid...LSD was $1.50/hit & TV was free.

I can't disagree with you there.

I would have worded it better but I am pretty and did not think it through much
I recently got really into Marty Friedmans solo stuff, his second and third albums especially are very beautiful: Marty Friedman - Scenes (full album)
This one may be my favorite, he is so great at blending very melodic mellow rhythms and then sneaking in ridiculous solo's but making it all sound pretty smooth.
At least a lot of the time, he has some more intense stuff too especially his first solo album which has a lot of straight up metal songs.
