How the hell can you put Momentary Lapse over Atom Heart????
I love me some Learning To Fly, but atoms heart is pretty solid. If they had finished fat old sun in time it would have been even more amazing.
Also rating floyd albums just feels wrong to me, they all do something pretty well and for the most part are pretty unique.
Some songs of the division bell for instance are amazing, even if the whole album isn't as golden as Meddle or Animals.
I completely agree about Obscured By Clouds though, such an amazing album. The fact it is just a soundtrack and was recorded in 2~ weeks makes all the more special.
-------------------- Don't worry about me, I've got all that I need. And I'm singing my song to the sky You know how it feels, With the breeze of the sun in your eyes. Not minding that time's passing by I've got all and more, My smile, just as before. Is all that I carry with me I talk to myself, I need nobody else. I'm lost and I'm mine, yes I'm free

Floyd has tiers in which most albums are 'ties' IMO.
there was a rumor that Pink Floyd & Waters were supposed to do 2001 a space odyssey's soundtrack but turned it down, which he regrets to this day.

Undertow by Tool is my workout album When "Bottom" comes on you know I am about to bust out the best set ever
If I let you, you would make me destroy myself In order to survive you, I must first survive myself I can sink no further, and I cannot forgive you There's no choice but to confront you, to engage you, to erase you I've gone to great lenghts to expand my threshold of pain I will use my mistakes against you, there's no other choice I'm shameless now, I'm nameless now, I'm nothing now, I'm no one now But my soul must be iron 'cause my fear is naked I'm naked and fearless And my fear is naked

I'm 61 yrs old & have never heard anyone come close to the things Jimi could do with his guitar. Sure, there's been some excellent guitarists since he made (& left) the scene...but nobody has had the impact he did. No computer-enhanced sound, no help from electronics, no special equipment...nothing but him & his guitar. Plus he was here for such a short period of time, yet left an everlasting impact on the music world. Major props to the best guitarist that ever lived...& that ever will live.

As many critics have said Hendrix is the only guitar player who ever looked like he was completely at home and playing effortlessly while playing - true alien like Bill Hicks would say. My (2nd) favorite guitarist behind Jerry Garcia - though I'd say Hendrix was by definition THE BEST.

I wouldn't really call it "special equipment" but he definitely had "help" from electronics so to speak. He pioneered the wah pedal and distortion pretty hardcore.
Electric guitar is all about that diversity though and ability to alter your sound with various effects. He was definitely utilizing electronics though.

him & roger mayer basically pioneered the fuzz/univibe/octavia like you mentioned, he used electronics but in a very primal fashion. his trick was basically turn everything up to 11. he played with such a big stack and such loud volume that he's nearly impossible to emulate in a home setting
