Panaeolus Cinctulus and possibly Bisporus Southern Ontario * 1
    #22143457 - 08/25/15 10:07 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

After being on vacation for 2 and a half weeks, the weather cooled down enough for a nice flush of cinctulus. Apparently there was some rain while I was away:D

Some of these mushrooms looked really similar to the ones I found in this location last season around this time of year, that were identified as Copelandia Bisporus, so if anything sticks out definitely speak up aha !

Enjoy the photos, let me know what you guys think I love the feedback!!

Picture 6 at very least looks like pan cinct, I'm sure that's not the only ones..
Some of the others look like olivaceus.
Nice finds!

Up to a point, yes.

With these Cinctulus I find once they start dropping spores and turning darker the caps also gain some blue along with the jet black colour. So it's a mix of both.

Very nice, thanks for the pics!  Can you tell me what environment you found them in?  In a garden, woods, cow pasture, ect...  Im just trying to find some for myself.  Are they more
common in the fall?

I was walking all over horse trails today trying to find these things. Is it best right after rain?

Every single specimen here was found growing from aged horse dung, I find them in horse pastures as well but they are not as potent growing in the grass.

They're common at all times of the year, but I mainly find bigger flushes around mid to late spring after some heavy rains. Summer can be really good if the temperatures stay below 86, once it gets too hot the season pretty much stops for a little while. The fall is good, but you have to look a little harder for them because theres lots of weeds that grow from old piles, but it makes a perfect habitat for these big cinctulus to grow.

My patches typically fruit after some heavy rains, then a couple days of hot sunny weather.

God damn those are gorgeous pans. You rarely see such consistent bluing on specimens that large, nice finds indeed! Pic #4 shows bluing all the way up the stem, typically cincts will only blue at the base and about halfway up the stem. I would guess that these are pretty potent, not to mention downright meaty. Most of the active pans I find are TINY, they dry up to little angel hair mushrooms, need about 1-2 grams to start feeling "level 1" psychedelic effects.

Many of them have been tried so far, and they are just as potent if not more potent than the homegrown cubensis we also have. 3-4g dry has most people flying, that averages a level 3-5 trip depending on the person who tries them. For me 4 grams is plenty, enough to give me lots of open eye visuals and euphoria to go along with that.

Much stronger than any average cinctulus found in grass, if you haven't tried cinctulus growing from dung you're missing out. Definitely add it to your list if it grows in your area, because you will not be disappointed. I am blown away by how potent they are, enough to be hesitant on eating too many :crazy2:

#1 holy crap nice finds! those are beautiful.

#2 those are no normal Cinctulus or Bisporus that I'm aware of so if they indeed turn out to be microscopically than you need those spores in to a mycologist like workman or others that can document it and make them available to the world. They may be something rare or unknown...

here are some of very typical and also some very large fruitings of Cintulus http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15565191

And here are some bisporus from the northern hemisphere: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/15626432#15626432

See what I'm saying? they don't quite match the ones you have. I realize that there can be variations.

I am very familiar with those threads, they are actually the reason I started hunting these pans haha. I have been looking to send them out to be checked out, but I am not sure who to send them to and I would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction. I have lots of prints and I would love for someone to scope these and finally tell me what they are exactly.

There are plenty of folks here that can Identify spores. I'm sure others will chime in and volunteer. Workman is always a safe bet in my book but he can be slooooow  sorry workman you had that one coming lol but I still love you and the work you've done. Pretty easy to tell a bisporus from what I hear. forked basidium. You can always pm him to see if he has the time to look at them. But remember he is busy so be patient.

I apologize for my redundancies if you were familiar with those threads. Good to hear they were inspiring to get you out in the field.

Mush love,
Frizzie
