Column Culture Questions and Experiences?

Ok so I have been reading through Paul Stamets Growing Gourmet and medicinal mushrooms 3rd edition and a section of the book refers to a method called Column Culture. Is this a feasible tek to use with cubes? So the basic rundown of the tek is you fill polyethylene tubing with straw and spawn packing it very tightly by lifting and droping it. then once filled flip it so the packed end is on top thus packing the rest down. poke 1/8th inch holes all over it and let it colonize then fruit it. In the book it says that average harvest with oyster for a ten foot column is 27 pounds wet.

You can do straw logs with cubes but not this way. Cubes will pin everywhere and not just at the air holes like oysters. This means you have to take the plastic all the way off and then there's nothing left to support the log and they will fall.

I could see chickenwire working, but it'd be hard to keep your moisture up. You'd need a big-ass humidified room or a martha or something. And it'd be more efficient at that point to lay them on their sides.
Check out the laundry basket TEK that RR came up with. It's basically the same thing but easier.

These are the TEKs I use. They're all as cheap and easy as possible, just like your mom.
