Shrinking PF cake
    #22141680 - 08/25/15 04:25 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

I started a PF cake about two months ago (PE strain) in one of the tall 1.5 pint jars.  It was about 97% colonized except for a small spot on the bottom.  I flipped it upside down about a week ago to see if that would help get er done.  Today when I checked the cake has shrunk by about 10% and has pulled away from the bottom of the jar.  Is that a sign that its time to birth it?

It's not recommended to use pint jars, let alone 1.5s, because the low gas exchange can cause stalling. Grain has plenty of room for air movement but brf and verm once colonized does not.

If the section that didn't colonize is now colonized you're good to birth. The shrinking is from the mycelium eating the cake, 2 months is a long time for the myc to be munching. As long as it's not contaminated it should flush hard.
